lol kida, dont tell T that she has a list ready for when the boat is done.

Soooooo i wasnt going ti update for awhile as i thought i hadnt done much but more than i thought.

I decided to faff about with the electrics, only sorting the battery cables out as i need more supplies as i have spent all the boat funds until next pay day.

I wasnt up fr spending on a big crimp tool for the 25mm cable so i made one that has done the job. I used a length of ally bar and drilled then cut it out to take the tube terminals.

And for the crimper i used a spare door handle bar and rounded it off and and with a few good thumps wiht a lump hammer all good.

tn_20170903_135055.jpg

tn_20170903_135432.jpg

Then a length of adhesive shrink tube to seal it all.

tn_20170903_142035.jpg

That was that for now there, a said i need more terminal connectors and decided on better battery terminals aswell. All will be got again for 12v Planet.

At last i have fitted the last panel on the bow locker.

This here is the radio box for the 2 DIN radio that i mite get myself for xmas for it. I have found this Kenwood one that i like. Also for a 12v/USB sockets below it.

Although i would prefer one with remote aswell.

I just stapled the ply together then glued the trim on, i ran out of Hockey stick again though but you get the idea.

tn_20170916_164256.jpg

Lets see how good the Gorilla glue is hey

tn_20170916_174029.jpg

In situ`ish

It is going to have small shelves either side aswell with the either side being netted storage.

tn_20170918_172238.jpg

In this pic you will see that i have fitted some vent in the seat, i got a load from China a few weeks ago, no rush and at £1.30 for 10 :)

tn_20170918_172254.jpg

I made a draw and cant decide if i like it now lol.

tn_20170918_171921.jpg

tn_20170918_172029.jpg

I started to panel around the loo, sorry Heads bud decided for maybe in the futre i will need more wiring from for fuse bow to soem wher so i fitted a length of 15mm pipe through the frame work so i can thread new wiring to the cupboard area.

Inside the cupboard

tn_20170913_174252.jpg

And it goes along the top into the electrics area.

tn_20170913_174258.jpg

Ea by eck now i see i have done more than i thought :)

Galley end storage shelves done.

tn_20170916_174038.jpg

tn_20170916_174021.jpg

And to finish i hung the two cupboard doors. Lazy and used surface hinges but look ok.

tn_20170918_171914.jpg

tn_20170918_171901.jpg

Thats about it for now, will be ordering the rest of the electrics next week and a few more bits, lost my shopping list some where on the boat in all the mess.

Need to look out for a nice slab of teak for the galley work top. Generally if i dont rush i find a bargain and save a few quid which i like to do. I can get an ols school worktop and clean it back but thats £100, still if needs be that will be fine.

I am getting some Formica or Melamine from here for the galley splash back and cupboard front. They have something in that lot i am sure.

Still it deciding which to go for.

https://www.lawcris.co.uk/

So plodding away quietly at it still :).

W,

I really like the crimp tool, I usually go to one of the two guys that I'm buying batteries, solar, etc and I borrow, but I may built one as it's a good thing to have

Like how the interior develops, but I really hate the surface hinges on the two cabinet doors :( It's just me and brass don't go together, sorry!
Do you really need surface hinges, couldn't do with proper blum mechanisms?
Good idea to have a radio with BT so that the young ones will have something to play onboard (and you get to listen to their favourite playlists from their mobiles-could be good, could be bad, depends on how they were "trained")

Must report some progress myself as well soon!

cheers

V.

Hi V

I shall hang my head in shame on the hinges, as said i was being lazy for a start and not using flush hinges. I did find some nice surface hinges that are antique look but were near £5 a hinge and as i was in BnQ ( dam i hate that place ) i just wanted to get sorted and get bits to crack on.

The door is only 9mm thick so would need to be fully framed internally, i will be bracing the doors a little yet but need to line the inside yet with some Melamine.

Yes i like the radio, i was looking for a fold down type that sits flush up when off like in the new Range Rovers etc. Only ones i find are fold out and up single DIN type. What i want is the screen and no CD but then you get the GPS and SAT NAV gadgets which i dont want. Just the DAB, USB and BT is fine.

So settle for the Kenwood with CD.

Hey near bought my next project last week, a Senior 32 shell. A few things put me off it though as in getting it from the IOW to home and it costing a fortune.

Transport will be free as you will be able to live on it when your wife throws you out of the house. Don't go there until you've enjoyed using the current one!

ps I got my alpine hi fi on ebay, came with amps, sub woofer, speakers and cables for the price of the unit at retail - worth looking there are a few bargains (it was boxed and receipted BTW)

Have you got a link to one of those?

I'm after a single DIN head unit with just BT and USB but don't want to pay marine prices or have something that looks like it came out of a Citroen Saxo. (Unfortunately my rather efficient and handy partner got the old one working so it's slipped down the priority list.)

I'm with Vas on the hinge front. Have you lacquered them? If not they're likely to discolour fairly quickly in sea air. However I do like the drawer:encouragement: also the plastic pipe for future wiring is a great addition, I'd consider putting some string through now so you have a future mouse to make the wiring easier.

Great progress, but finish this one before buying another project!:)

Was that your solution Vas?;)

No, that would be the obvious solution if I wanted a new boat LJS :D
I promised I'll be a good boy for a few yrs and wont embark in any hands on projects and wont get involved in heavy admin jobs (vice rector post ends summer 2018...)
But now that she's away in Malmo for a fortnight, I can work each evening and finish off some NMEA2K, fitout bits, and H/T detailing! see?

cheers

V.

I couldnt find a radio that drops down like ones in cars as they are all TV`s like this one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/C-KO-22-D...861051?hash=item489144f5fb:g:tvQAAOSwgZ1Xrafa

I found a drop down single DIN radio though.

The hinges are not laqured and i could age them myself easy enough.

I use these that are for threading fishing pole elastic for threading, although your idea is fine aswell :0

or simply make sure you get another SWIMBO willing to accommodate you, your workshop and your boat fixing fix...

V.

T is fine with it, i have had 12 years to train her to my ways, that was a project in itself lol.

Not just that but she is willing to get one big enough to make into a live aboard :) this one moored along side, workign weekends away, luvi it :)

I should of just fitted these in the beginning hey Vas, as i wasnt all that keen on the surface hinges myself.

I found these on some old caravan doors i have in the shed from years ago when i ripped out a caravan for a mate.

tn_20170924_164836.jpg.0bc211cf494570927ebeae363d7c4bb7.jpg

I need to batten out the inside of the doors the same as the frame for the hings to screw to.I was going to wait until i have lined and mite still yet, helps if i do wait as it will it easier get a better finish and easier than cutting the Vermiculite around the battens inside the doors.

tn_20170924_123923.jpg.f4c992d9a782ec28dc1eb83d74a63b05.jpg

I have started to line the galley storage but first i had to laminate around the bottom of the water tank to hold it in place. 10 min job.

tn_20170924_123915.jpg.4a4928907ea56f67f38ccdffdaf72b38.jpg

Not going to move now ;)

tn_20170924_164618.jpg.bfa9d4ae6805ae9a3a4453c4486bbd03.jpg

Then as that was setting i got on with the radio box/shelf.

A couple of battens and a shelf of the Sapele veneer on top with the Sapele Hockey stick trim.

tn_20170924_143141.jpg.1e920580828e06dca4520f340059c77b.jpg

And hey ho, oh the upright battens are just to support the shelves for now.

tn_20170924_163911.jpg.291cfca52276ee127b3f47a831fd3ff6.jpg

I have ordered the rest of the electrical gubbins along with some Wago211 connectors so i can then finish the radio/lights wiring in the radio box. Wish i knew about the Wago befor ei splashed out on busbars.

A little earlier i collect these timber planks for the galley worktop, i didnt want to go with a kitchen worktop and a veneered ply top so i waited out for a good deal and got these, i need to give them a good and etc but they are very nice slabs of timber of unkown as yet type.

tn_20170925_162807.jpg.ab1a901c9d4abeb72159037758466cb1.jpg

tn_20170925_162841.jpg.58d54b39bfea54b3460dc8c07aed0890.jpg

I sanded it back a little and i doo likey :), looked great when wetted out with a little damp acetone rag

tn_20170925_180803.jpg.0cec4f533a6d010d07e8cd401ad4cd33.jpg

So not sure what the timber is yet but i lie it and at a dam good nice price at £30 from an ebay bargain. 27mm thick aswell so a bit to go at if i decide to plane thickness it.

A few other have been done but more trim cut here and there and heater doors fitted in place with magnet catches,

I have just spent the last hour reading through this thread.. Firstly I just want to congratulate you on your efforts to date. You are clearly mad. I have only restored one boat but done several cars over the last few years, like many restorers I think we get a vision of what you want the boat or car to look like in the end. I have no doubt that by the end of this project it will match your vision, thank you for sharing, can't believe I have not looked at the thread before it got to 40 odd pages...

Pretty sure the timber is iroko
Very durable, blunts your tools very easy - I would oil it for a finish

Thoughts on the timber now seem to be swaying towards Teak as this i believe was used more in Chemistry classes as it is more durable than others.

I am not that bothered what it is not as i am just over the moon with it. Or is it that IMO it was a bloody bargain.

I have just ordered some DA sander discs for this weekend and i will see where i can get with it. Need some wire wool yet but thats easy got for a DIY shop, have plenty of acetone to clean it back first.

Just got in from making the front panel for the galley cupboard in readyness to be lined with which ever Melamine i decide on, should get the rest of the fronts done this week so in time for that.

We are all mad in one way or another, i just use my madness useful lol.

Glad you enjoyed the read, i am looking forward to looking back and having a good read once all done.

Just hope it does`nt put me off the next project boat, my dream for a car resto is a Corvette C3 Stingray. faffed with many a clapped out car but nowhere near that league.
