I have been looking at Broom 37's built in the early 1990's and I am thinking about buying one.If anyone has experience or advice to offer with regard to these boats I would be most grateful. In particular I would be interested in points to look out for when viewing these boats or user experiences, good or bad.

Thank you.

I have recently sold our 91/92 B37.
Superb sea boat, typical conservative but well finished Broom interior.
Early ones did not have the lower saloon windows which makes it more difficult being nosy as difficult to see out without moving. Early ones mostly have lower steering which takes up space and looks silly. Anyway, no one ever uses it.

A number of different engine options:
VP 200hp, Sabre 225hp or 275hp and VP 306hp. We had the last which gave superb performance but limited access for maintenance.

If for sea use, no problem but if intending use on rivers beware 4ft 3inch draft. Makes it very difficult finding moorings.

Would I have another one? On the coast - like a shot. On the river - No.
Same hull still used on Broom 415os.

Paul, I had one of these a few years ago. It was an excellent boat and one of the first of the modern generation of Broom planing hulls - not to be confused with the Crown 37 which is an older semi displacement hull. Mine had Sabre 275hp engines which gave about 22-24knots flat out when clean and I would say this is the minimum power you need for sea use. IMHO, the 200hp Volvos or 225hp Sabres would be underpowered
My B37 had the lower saloon windows and no internal helm and I would agree with miket that this is the spec to go for. My only major criticism of the boat was the exhaust noise. The exhausts do not have the latest water trap type exhaust silencers fitted and exit the hull on the sides not the transom so the exhaust drone at speed is tiresome. Otherwise I remember having problems adjusting the sternglands because Broom fit huge lock nuts which need special spanners to fit and there is'nt enough space to get leverage on the spanners. We had a problem with holding tank smell which was unpleasant as the holding tank is located under the aft cabin berth. This was eventually traced to the pipe from the forward toilet to the holding tank which has a very slack gradient on it and had become porous due to standing water in it. I also experienced problems with engine oil leaks and shearing gearbox locating bolts but these were more specific to the Sabre engines. Otherwise these engines performed very well and servicing was relatively cheap
The interior is typical Broom ie. non-stylish and I think by now many B37's would benefit greatly from refitting the upholstery and carpets
