Hi,
First I'll introduce myself,I'm Rob and sail with wife Penny and older teenage boys , who now only sail when bribed. We have a 28 foot boat which we have kept at Felixstowe Ferry for the last 5 seasons.Hope to join some of the events as family, taxi, roadie, dogsbody duties now reducing.
We have the rest of the week off and are thinking of visiting Brightlingsea and would like any advice on depths and moorings, boat draws 1.6' ish metres .Also any eateries, as crew insisting on meal.

Many thanks

Rob

Hi Rob

Look forward to seeing you at one of gatherings - you will find us all happy and relaxed.

My boat draws 1.7m - we went into Brightlingsea two hours after LW on 13th July when it was neaps and there was only .5m showing in the channel from the starboard mark(post) through the buoys. There is more further in. This week is springs so I'd give it a bit more than that.

As you probably know mooring is on the pontoons in the creek, usually the North pontoon which has plenty of water. A call to the ever helpful HM will see you escorted to a slot and he'll probably offer to take your lines.

A water taxi runs Friday evenings and all weekend but you can use your own dinghy to go to Colne YC jetty or call the HM during working hours. The key to the showers at the Colne YC can be borrowed from the HM in his hut on the quay.

I shall let someone else recommend eateries. The Kovalam Indian restaurant is always highly rated and busy.

Welcome
HM uses ch68 very helpful usually wants you to hold station by north cardinal at end of mooring pontoons.

As you enter Brightlingsea creek between S cardinal & post look for leading marks (red & white striped boards in amongst dinghy masts. Shallowest on this stretch. If fish & chips is desired walk up into the town Winkies is the better of the providers.

If you like curry, Kovalam (as mentioned by MoodySabre), is as good as anywhere I've been in East Anglia. Not heard a bad word about it, and everyone else I know who's been also rates it very highly.

It's close to the front, and the number is 01206 305555.
