I believe it was Francis Chichester who popularised the 'Baseball Cap' having his made with an extra long sneb or peak to keep the rain off his glasses ..... what's good enough for Francis is good enough for me

Yea, but when circumnavigating the Globe, does it really matter what one wears, no one to see you, is there?

Whereas, ashore or in the Marina, well one has to look the 'part' at least, even if you use boat, sorry yacht, as a holiday caravan?

Why wouldn't I? ... anything to do with Classic Boats is streets ahead of the rest ... I've owned 15 boats over the years, most of them sailing boats and 6 of them 'classic' .... keep up the good work!

Err, wife say that I should have, got a Leather one for (posing) ashore, Corduroy one (comfy one) for gardening, Blue one for foreshore wear and another Blue one for afloat wear, oh another Blue one for digging in mud anchors.

Is it fancy dress, or carrying on a fine tradition, or a practical piece of headwear evolved perfectly for what we do, or a ridiculous affectation........ or what?

And if not that, what would you recommend to hide my baldy pate whilst onboard my small wooden boat?

Is a Breton Cap any relation to a Dutch Cap, in that they are both worn by a ****?

I have a range of hats aboard, including a Breton cap, purchased in Brittany.

I do have to admit to wearing a "Legionnaires" baseball cap in the sun, think of a baseball cap with a bit of cloth that covers the neck. Looks bl**dy awful but does the job, £5 from the local army surplus store.
