I have an old XM non breathable set that must be 25 years old. I just about still fit in them! But they are totally waterproof. Sweat rolls off me though. They get worm possibly once a year if I’m in very wet conditions. My “go to” breathables are Gill OS2. Fair price and decent quality. I normally get about 5 to 6 years out of them.
Anyway, since I first posted on this thread in July 2018, we since sailed to Norway and back last year, encountering some very heavy rain in Shetland and some rough conditions approaching Norway. The Guy Cotten gear was excellent and I have absolutely no regrets about buying and wearing them.
I still carry my old Musto MPX gear on the boat but haven't used the jacket since 2017 (although, admittedly, we haven't done any sailing this year, so far....). I did occasionally use the MPX breeks which are comfortable but starting to delaminate.
At a fraction of the cost of MPX or Gill, Guy Cotten is the way to go, IMHO.
Musto is a great brand, lovely gear, but the price really is a killer.
My Musto MPX gave up the ghost at about 5 years old in very heavy rain or sitting on a wet cockpit seat despite reproofing. My 20 year old Helly Hansen non breathable is still going strong - bulletproof.
I did buy a new Puma Ocean jacket because it was going cheap on ebay as old new stock. Great jacket, absolutely on the par with Musto MPX/HPX in my opinion. Time will tell how long the waterproofing will last.
