I read a week or so ago that the new Branston factory had burnt down I didnn't really give it much thought, until yesterday, when I was told a jar is being auctioned on Ebay and had reached silly money already. So I'm of to the boat now as I have 2 brand new unopened jars!!!

Thats sad news, 'cos it's the only pickle worth eating. All the rest are pale imitations. There are certain brands that have the "solid factor" and imitators fail to get close. How about:

Heinz tomato soup
HP Sauce
Heinz baked beans
Green Giant sweetcorn
Birds Eys frozen peas

Any more?

Production back to normal in three weeks' time, so they say, in which case, it'll all be over by Christmas. Um, hang on a minute, errrm............

Half a large jar in the fridge, so I'm all right, Jack [smug]

Baxter's Lobster Bisque!!
Best 99p you'll ever spend. Just add a dash of brandy and a dollup of creme fraiche. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Mike Gatting on test match special:

Aggers: So Mike, is there anything you don't like about Branston pickle?

Gatt: They don't make the jars big enough.

Yes I like Branston and unfortunately have only half a jar left, but for ages have missed that other really nice pickle McConnochies (maybe spelt wrong) Pan Yan Pickle. They did a standard one which I liked and a more spicy one that I didn't. Anyway looks like I wont have either for a while.

What about Dads' Cookies? What happened to them?

Re: Obvious Omission

Oh yes - they actually did cross my mind, but I thought that others would think me daft.

As a kid, when we went on camping holidays in a motor home, my Dad would cook these in a make-shift oven. They were easily the most favourite of the holiday rations.

After Eight Mints

PS

I heard a rumour over the weekend that they have changed the recipe of Heinz tomato soup. I hope to whatever deity there is that this isn't true. Remember the disaster when they changed oxtail soup from a spicy, tasty nourishing snack to a can of brown water with lumps in?
