Bow Thruster Problem Advice sought

The pin has broken for sure - good news is they are dead cheap and easy to replace

so, you think it is ok for me to reassemble because the movement of that key is indicative of a broken sheet pin, under the water line. ill reach out to my diver but im guessing he wont be able to do this.

i got an exploded view of my assembly. part X is freely turning, that concerns me as to get access to Y, i would need to haul it.

i understand that, my concern is that the key/part labeled X is spinning freely by and and i do not know if that is expected and pointing to an issue below the water line.

found a broken sheer pin hiding in the coupler. ordering…

All I can say is that on mine free spinning was a good thing - meant that the shaft and gear drive to the prop were not fouled in any way - I would worry if it didn't move, then the new pin would snap too. I would just replace and try it - I think they came in a pack of 2 - mine were about £7 for a pair

I suspect that the shear pin (item 4) on the diagram has sheared.

When I check my Vetus BT, getting the prop off after a few years is a time consuming job. Reminds me to measure up for a puller next time the boat is out of the water.

Mine is a vetus too - I remove the prop every year to replace the anode - as long as the prop is jammed to prevent turning, once the 2 screws are removed the prop comes out easily (or just a tap from the back with a piece of wood should do it).

Single recessed bolt on mine so a socket with extension piece required. The boat is only out of the water every other year which allows the 'muck' to build up !

confirmed, it was the sheer pin! replaced and running just fine. point is, the tail head is allowed to move freely.
