Hi All,

New User, just been getting up to speed with the posts over the last few months; what a source of info! I have a little Cruisers Int'l 224, and very happy with it. Based at Christchurch (hence username) and wondering of anyone from this or the Poole area is planning on burbling out to see the end-of-season monster fireworks display at Bournemouth Pier this Friday night? It would be good to come back into christchurch with someone who knows the deep channel as none of the bouys are lit, and my night vision's pants.
Cheers!

Graham_Wignall is a Christchurch local and is familiar with the channel. I think some Forumites are meeting up at Studland again this weekend (me being one of them) and now I know that there are Fireworks at Bournemouth I might just head down on Friday night and anchor at Studland after they have finished.

Bugger. I'll be on my way back down from Blackpool, otherwise we'd have been out for this.

As Moose says, we're based in Rossiters in Christchurch, and I've been boating there for 13/14 years but I've only recently started doing night-time stuff.

The channel is a bugger in the dark - the only advice I can give is to have someone sat on the bow with a spotlight (do it from the helm and the glare from the deck blinds you). The channel markers are unlit, but do have retro-reflective tape on them, so you can just spot them. Remember that they are not all in pairs - it might be worth writing down the order as you go out, so you can count your way back in, too.

It's all worth it - we watched the Christchurch fireworks from the river a couple of weeks back - brilliant!

I'm in christchurch too at Tuckton, but can barely get down or up in daylight without touching bottom let alone after dark!

Practice, Mike, practice. We can get in or out anywhere other than an hour either side of LWS, although we prefer the top half of the tide of possible.
