Thinking of investing in a Bosco 1000 Boat Hook to help when using Swedish-type bows-to-jetty stern-to-buoy berths. Does it work as advertised? Any feed back from users would be appreciated.

I use a similar device called the "HandyDuck" and it works very well, but from the pics online the Bosco seems more substantial.

The handy duck hook head is all plastic but the plastic is chunky enough for a 1/2 ton load. You need to check that the aperture of the hook is wide enough for the local mooring rings you will be attaching to.

My next investment will be one of those mooring gadgets that threads a 6mm or 8mm line through a mooring hoop, it would avoid all that DIY gut surgery hanging over the bow trying to coax a warp through the mooring ring.

It worked brilliantly and if I could remember the make I would buy one.
The chandler attached to QAB marina Plymouth had a demo display setup for one of these last September, I am sure they could source one for you with a phone call.

I had to try the demo model at QAB a few times to convince myself the mechanism did not employ black magic.

Its called a Moorfast and SWMBO agrees its brilliant. Usually available at Boat shows, haggle if you can at the end of the show.

You really don't have to do that!
See my contribution on the Which Boathook thread. Adapting a good 6ft shaft to take a Kong snaphook with its own line is quick, easy and effective. And I'm singlehanded so not much scope for it going pear-shaped. Do PM for more.

I have a Bosco hook and whilst it is very well made it is very heavy and can bang into bow when released by an unsuspecting crew. If I was to buy one again I'd opt for the plastic variety.

I find the threaders are difficult to use where there are waves etc.I have a Bosco which works OK and you can release it.Mostly if it is rough I have a short length of chain with rope spliced to each end.I lasso the buoy and hang off it whilst I sort a permanent warp through the hoop.
