Boatyard to close

Bad news for boat owners on a budget, Merlin Boat Yard on the Itchen River in Southampton is due to close in a month or so.

It seems that the owner of the site is leasing the large hangar to a Wind Generator manufacturer, who will require the use of all the facilities of the yard. Because of this the yard will no longer be able to offer boat storage.

This will be a blow to those boaters on a tight budget as they will be forced to find alternate storage, resulting in a considerable increase in fees, as well as not being able to pay on a monthly basis

I know that there is a wind blade manufacturer in Southampton.

If you need space ashore in the local area thats cheap try the Alladins Cave barge at Swannick, think there might be some space afloat too, but no good for rag and stick as above the two bridges. There is not a dry sail facility.
