I still to this day can't look at a number plate without sounding it out phonectically.
Started when I did my vhf operators licence all those years ago and never stopped.
Drives me nuts sometimes.

It's gone. Cheaper to stick with what we've got. (apart from transfer fees of course, but economy isn't everything)

Slightly different, but the very succesful Clyde-based racing yachtsman Jeff Howison bought his Mum a number plate off a Wimpey Builders Transit -
HOW 150N, which is as good as it gets, really.
