Come on then, give us all a good laugh, but don't forget some other poor boater has probably had a worse time!
With luck we may hear about it, c'mon spill the beans. . . . .
Well it all started easiliy enough. Drive kick'd up going astern. No probs thinks I. So phone nice man at Volspec, who delivered in 24 hrs and gave me a bit of discount, and ordered to reverse latch pawls.
Went to change them over. First one came of no problem. Go the other side put spanner to nut and the frigging shaft shears of.
Git! Thought I. So back on the dog 'n' bone to my now good mate Victor at Volspec, who by the way is all seeing and knowing things Vilevo. "Not got one of those in stock" says he. "Got to order it from the land of Sveeeeden. Should be here the 'morrow and I'll send it poste haste there after"
Right wiv me so far. Spent a months wages on 3 little bits of Sveeedens finest parts. So looking at the way this thing works it looks more and more that I've got to remove drive and dismantle the fekin thing to get to bleedin' nuts that hold the reverse mech on.
Out comes the hammer and drift. Cos this baby is held on with the 2 biggest "come on and hit me if your hard enuff" stainless cotter pins. Tippy tap Tippy tap. Not hitting iot too hard cos we don't want anymore accidents do we. Well the little half pound ball pein was not going to budge those buggers. Sit back and have a fag Barry. There are thats better. Don't get annoyed......get a bleedin' bigger hammer! So rummage in the back of the Rangie and bring out the mother of polished club hammers. These little babies have no option but to move now! How bloody wrong was I!!!
Fag Time......thats better
Lets think about this. Brains over brawn. OK I cant get a good swing at it coz the bathing platform is in the way. Off with the platform. Hour later and six sheard bolts the flippin' platform is still attatched to the boat! Nuts. Forget this brain thing. Wheres the fekkin' angle grinder. There you go Platform is now off, who said you needed brains when you've got an angle grinder! Mind you I did look at the drive while still holding the grinder...........but I didn't
So now the gynocologist can see the babies head. Back to the lump hammer and drift. Clang.....no didn't move...Clang.....didn't move.....CLANG....didn't move CLANG CLANG CLANG.........didn't move! Bugger this
CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG................didn't move. Now I'm getting the 'ump. OK one more try before the hydraulic press comes out. CLAAAAAAANG.......slip, crack.........bollocks I'm going down the pub!
Stuff the angle grinder Barry, gave up to them long ago. Petrol styl saw is the answer. Dimond toothed blade as well. Kids even use it for cutting string when cant be arsed to find a knife. Have your outdrive in pieces in a jiffy../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Sorry but I laughed quite a bit!! Wouldn't you just bloody know that as soon as you said you would take the bathing platform off it would go bits up! Well when we were looking to get at our outdrive, we thought crafty, and took some woodwork off the platform, but the srews still sheared off!!!!
However I think you are trying to make me feel better after last years disastrous episodes of doom and gloom!!!
Now I have a nice recon outdrive, a new bathing platform,(just got the teak to fit now) and a fully reconned engine to fit.Hopefully I can get out the garden long enough, to fix my boat next week!!
Been in this lark(pouring money down a drain for 6 months) and well u should know bolts and screws aint meant to come undone cos I aint had one yet , sorry mate but que sera
Still ask me about the episode when I was using a blowtorch to burn paint of the soffits and fascia boards!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a bit undecided. This w/e its the youngests birthday party on sat. Now Seeing as I've just paid for new carpets in the lounge which is very light in colour. new leather sofas and new birch table etc and just redecorated the place......all under duress from the other half. I'm loathed to stay at home to see 16 kids trailing chocolate/drinks/sandwiches/pop and at least 6 hormonal wimmin' ruin the lot of it.
So plan was finish work early friday hitch up the little Bonwitco and bugger off fishing the harbour for the w/e.
BUT, theres always one, I need to get this drive thing sorted if we're to make the Mercury thing. So on the face of it common sence dictates that I'm staying home to get it sorted. On the other hand the weather does look to be good this w/e and I could do with buggering off and doing what I want to do for once.
You can have my golf clubs for 50quid Barry, but you will find they hit the ball off to the right, 80% of the time. ALso, you will need some 70's style platform shoes, because they are longer than standard to suit me rather than little blokes./forums/images/icons/smile.gif
I gave up golf and bought a boat - that's how bad I was. My most common fault was standing too close to the ball after I had hit it.
Good luck with the outdrive .......
<hr width=100% size=1>I'm average size, Its just that everybody else is short.
Its only a little 12 foot dinghy with an old 20hp mariner on the back! Though in saying that Poole patch should be doable if the weather turns out as forecast.
