Actually Neal - didn't you have some superfast dinghy from us? & I'm not sure i see the Tinker tramp on your list......

Hi Sharon!

Hmmmm ..... you've got my brain trying to work a bit there.

It's not quite what it was (as you know), but it's coming up with memories that I bought the Solo, from you: is that the one?

And, yes, I left the Tramp off my list, on the not entirely logical grounds that I wasn't thinking about tenders (so there's quite a few other absentees in addition to the Tramp).

Sailed lots of dinghies, mostly family owned, Fireflies, Enterprises, Scorpions.

I have owned:

Scorpion – 1044 (had built – Westerly Boats, Rock)
420
Verl 900 (bought new)
Windsurfers
Lasers x 5
Sigma 33 – 'Tresillian V of Northney' (Hull 007)
Sigma 33 – 4574 Chimaera (re-named ‘Revenge’)
Bavaria 44 – ‘Time Off’ original name and still with us after 12 years.

My curiosity is piqued!

How does your blagging scheme work, and do you run courses?
Earlier in my late teens / early 20's it was the Uni sailing club where my dubious sailing ability was eclipsed by the double benefit of owning a car with a towhitch, and then reaching age of 21 so could drive the Uni minibus. Later, it depended entirely on knowing people with boats who are short of crew, or who are chartering and are short of crew, or are chartering in the Med and want some company on holiday, or are doing an own-boat training course and need a crew / watchkeeper / drinking buddy.

All round the Contessa 33 was one of the best boats I've owned. I know why previous Contessa 33 owners used to look wistfully at mine. Well built, apart from some idosyncratic electrics, good looking and quick. We did an Atlantic circuit in her and I vividly remember sailing up wind in the Chesapeake with full main and headsail reefed to #3 size. Over taking motoring Island Packets making heavy weather of it. Our friends in their Halberg Rassay 46 could only get past us under power.

No the Solo wasn't from us....it was some esoteric go fast machine by Ian Proctor i think....(though i wouldn't be prepared to bet on that) it had the most ridiculously tall rig

I think the anecdotes the best part of these fascinating ownership lists...........

................how do you find the transition from the wide open spaces on the speedy Dehler to the less expansive accommodation on the Contessa?

Oooh, I think I'll have to plead not guilty to that one. I think even I'd remember something that exotic. Sounds like Flew's sort thing, maybe?

I cunningly managed to avoid boat ownership for a very long time by letting others have the burden of ownership whilst i had the fun :D

Boats i didn't own but had the use of and / or crewed and / or skippered (mostly skippered, i tend to end up being in charge!) ...

Sailing dingies ...

Sculptor (working narrowboat)

Then it went a bit pear shaped and i had to buy my own yachts! ...
