Sorry to hear of your frustrating weekend FF. I hope VP gets you fixed quickly and on your way. it is astonishing how these things, unrelated, can go wrong at the same time.

just a thank you to Colin (sorry, cant remember your forum title...Col...) he very kindly kept coming to check on me, give advice, even got his mechanic friend of his on the phone to chat to me as he thought it was turbo related.. ... TBH, I was in such a bloody mood I was pretty unfriendly and now certainly owe him a beer... thanks Colin for your concern, I did appreciate it...even though it may not have seemed so at the time!.

I can fully understand how you were feeling. Hope you get it sorted soon. :)

Colin

Very frustrating for you Firefly, hopefully Volvopaul will have her back to full health soon. What is irritating is it sometimes feels that those of us who put blood sweat and tears into our boats still suffer with breakdowns and bad luck, where as you do see some boats out there that haven't seen a days maintenance in years and yet they merrily cruise along all season without any issue.

Sorry to hear this James. What a pain right at the begining of the season.

If you find yourself at a loose end while its being fixed and you feel the need to tinker with a boat....

I have a yanmar 4lha 230hp 4 pot. No horrible electric skulduggery and had a real following as a bit of a bomb proof lump...

Seabird could not be more cherished, it was not missing a beat end of last year....left to its own and look what it does!

Thought so Yanmar are famous for it, try this, remove the charge air cleaner and clean the stack you will amazed at the crud that is in there, caused by the rocker box breather dragging foul air back through the turbo. When you have finished reroute the breather pipe.

Is she fixed now?

Hi Ben

Sorry, missed your post. Not quite done yet, but almost..
Turbo taken off by vp and dropped off to turbo dynamics in Christchurch, they did the following:

"fully removed all corrosion from all housing and machined any faces that needed doing, The turbine shaft has been re rung and so has the bearing housing as well as being honed. The wastegate was freed off and cleaned up. We fettled the compressor wheel and replaced all kit parts, journal bearings, thrust bearing, thrust washer, thrust bush, piston rings compressor and turbine end. Then the CHRA was rebalanced and the unit was fully reassembled with the correct boost settings. "

It is now sitting in the office at mercury waiting for vp to re-fit.
