I seen 'em....

That phrase always puzzled me, until I saw this little corker:

What other ones do the forum consider to be ugly ducklings?

That's a NW-21, designed and built in the late 70's by Gary Lundy. I believe that he was doing this in Washington (USA) as he and the boat were at a Seattle Boat Show. A few were sold, but their handling under sail left something to be desired.
I always wondered if he was supported initially by Bayliner, hoping for something to make their awful 70's Buccaneers look acceptable...

That wee yellow Debutante looks rather nice....
Re Joker's Sampo, the styling looks a bit ambitious for what might be a sampan lurking underneath.
The NW 21 would (IMHO) look better if she had less rake on the bow, with perhaps a dark blue sheer stripe (rather than white). I see what you mean about the similarity to the Bayliner Buccaneers, except that the Buccaneers were much more caravanny.

Couldn't find any trainers, but here are a couple of cloggies instead - they were at the Brest 92 classic boat festival. I was there too (and it was brilliant), but these photos came from an old copy of The Boatman.
