Boating

When I tell people who don't know what type of boat I own, their first assumption always seem to be that it is a on a boat with sails and I end up explaining that "No, I have a motor boat". So, generally I say "I'm going boating" to try to indicate that it is not a boat with sails. I know that "Sailing" is a generic term which covers Power and Sails but with part of the word being sail it does steer people to think of the activity boats with sails.
It seems to me that we don't really have a similar term such as sailing which makes it clear that we are not actually going out in a boat with sails but on a motor boat. Having googled "MotorBoating" it seems to have acquired a somewhat different meaning
So, what do you say?

If asked if I am going out on my boat, I normally state that my ship is 'Under Sailing Orders'. Worked in the Navy and they haven't 'hoisted' main engines for about one hundred years

I went on a boat with Searush (I did too) a sailing boat it was, well shiver me timbers, no rush
The Day was quiet, as far as the winds blew, so no need to rush about
'Going about' the Skipper shouted'!
Crumbs. I thought, wots appenned?
Nowt really, then we tacked, or did we jibe, or was it a Tack
Fecked if I knew
We tried to get back to where we came from with all this cloth friggen about in the the breeze
Lots of time to eat butties and talk rollocks though
Is that the beauty of sailing?
Then I went sailing again once
With a Bloke of this Forai
'Can't park me boat kwaker, gis a hand'
'No sweat' says I
Long , deep keel thinghie
Lovely thing
So we did , Long boat deep keel parkin practice
Engine on like--can't do saily parkin

On my two experiences

We is boaty peeps , don't matter if it gets to where we are goin or how long it takes (if yer a yauhtie type!) but a Mobo will get there first, and get thr best mooring and first at the bar!

Quite different meaning when we say boating and fishing,in boating we may have motor boat or simple boat while for fishing we usually prefer boats which are able to control waves of river,lake wherever you go for fishing.

As you should have found out, we raggies bring the bar with us and have plenty of time to enjoy it in the open air without having to go into some dingey dive for it. The beer is warm, the wine cheap, the craic mighty and we carry hooks on the front to settle in some godforsaken bootyful bay away from the heathens in their stinkpots with noisey gennies and lights and electric and 'toilets' and musical contraptions and TV. A silvery fish caught on a line wrigling its way into a frying pan to be had with butter and pinhead oats and more cheap white wine in candle light beats 'parking' with everyone else to have chicken gougons and chips.

To the OP, the correct phrase is 'I am going outside, I may be some time, goodbye'!

I don't understand. we do all of those things on our motor boat except we chill the beer and wine first. I didn't realise raggies didn't have toilets though.
