Hi All - I'm a designer working on a logo for a boating equipment company and I'm trying to familiarize myself a bit with the contemporary boating/yachting world. I'd really appreciate it if any of you out there could chime in on your favorite slang terms or sailing jargon. I'm looking specifically for contemporary terms that one might encounter or be familiar with - maybe terms that mean 'fast' or 'full sail' or a 'strong wind' etc. Also it could just be more of a concept than a term if you care to explain it - essentially I'm looking for what is 'cool' or 'exciting' in sailing and more specifically relating 'wind'. Thanks very much for any input on this - and I apologize if this is not the place to post this kind of request. --bp

It sounds as though you're talking about a macho image. I suggest you go into a pub or yacht club bar along the Cowes waterfront on a Saturday evening after the day's racing. Stand next to any group of guys who are all under 25 and wearing immediately identifiable yachting clothing. If you have a pretty girl with you so much the better. The testosterone-fuelled bragging should give you all you need.

Cynical? moi?

Strong wind = FART see post on apparant wind and true wind.
However the buzz word that everyone is using for fast boat is Slinky.
As in '''Man thats a slinkey boat'''.

Am sure most who cruise the Solent will be familiar with : THE BFC! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
