That's an easy one - now you've thought about it it'll pray on your mind until you do it. That's how that sort of thing works for me anywayApart from looking at them every winter there is no maintenance that can be done on control cables. My gear cable is the same age as the engine (20 years), the throttle cable could be the same age as the boat (47 years). Do I wait for one or other to break, do I just carry spares or do I replace them this coming winter?
Not exactly easy to get at with a squirt of oil every now and thenOn going astern when berthing I noticed the boat was unresponsive.......found the problem
It will prey on my mind until something else starts to prey on my mind then I'll forget about the cables until something else reminds me...That's an easy one - now you've thought about it it'll pray on your mind until you do it. That's how that sort of thing works for me anyway![]()
Check them over for signs of the outer cover splitting and if the controls started to feel stiff / clunky.Apart from looking at them every winter there is no maintenance that can be done on control cables.
