Can anyone suggest a company to transport a Buckingham 25 from Hook to Twickenham? The boat is about 2 tons, 27' inc drive and is currently in a garden with the stern propped up on tyres!
Oh! Is that what the picture is of. I thought it was a major catastrophy at sea.
Dont bother with a boat transport firm. Else you'll need a crane as well. Find some one with a truck with two ton Hyab on the back. Machinery transport guys use them. I know a couple of bloke round here, but to far away.

That's my pride and joy that you're talking about 8-[
Seriously though, it is right next door to a trucking company but I think that they are too busy and not very interested in moving it to catch a tide. We have already tried it once but discovered a hole in the hull!
We could get them to drop it on a trailer if necessary but probably cheaper and better with a Hyab.
You dont want a big firm. Second hand machinery man or transport man. But cant see them wanting to hang about for tide. Less you pay extra, and even then. There a bit funny that way. Trouble with, nexd door puting it on. Some ones got to get it off again. Or can you find a 4X4 and trailer. Or go to truck rental and find a nice guy at tother end, to take it off. There are ways and means. It's not like it's big and heavy

I have tried to hire a van or lorry to tow my boat and trailer and it was really difficult and thats with the boat already on a trailer. I finally found Foley Van rental – 7.5t Iveco with towbar - £122.20 inc vat for a Day Hire.
They are based in Worcester (01905-769000) but may have a local depot nr you. Where you would go to hire a boat trailer I don't know. What you need is someone on here who has a boat which is now on a Marina and the trailer is used for Winter Storage. My trailer has my boat on it.
Good luck.

Cleopatra - yellow hull called Court Jester. Have you seen her ?
So. Get hold of van/truck/4x4 and whip down to Adrians place. Plonk his boat in local reservior for a bit and nick his trailor. See all sorted. Easy when you got friends!!

Why Twickenham? You could get her put in above Teddington, no tide problems and then move her down river?
Try giving John Tough at Toughs Boatyard (Teddington) a ring and see what he can suggest - 020 8977 4494
Thames Ditton Marina also have a slip and hardly any distance from Hook - in fact may even be a better starting point than Toughs.
Problem is the lack of working engine. I would have to tow it down to Eel Pie or find another mooring. It's only about an hour to get to Twickenham and then use the slip at the Barmy Arms. Straight across to Lions Boatyard to an inside mooring.
That's the theory anyway. I would like to have her (sorry, it) above Teddington but at Eel Pie I can work on her in the evenings and don't have to worry about licences, etc until she is fully running (or am I wrong there?).
You dont need a licence unless you are 'using' the boat on the river and you can also get a section 9 licence for 1 day for delivery movements. Had my boat in the marina for several months getting it up to BSS standard etc before licensing it this year.
Your welcome to leave your boat anywhere you like.
You'll recognise my house it has a BURGEE flying from the TV aerial on the roof. Who wants a boat with a polluting diesel engine - dirty smelly things - petrol-head and proud of it.
Still if you need a tow anyday ask er .... um .... well ..... try ...... help

I take it you mean Hook by surbiton surrey and not hook in Hants. For the trailer hire try Parrymore Trailers in staines. If push comes to shove and you havent got a towcar big enuff. I've got a range rover and am just up the road from you if you mean hook by surbiton and not the hook in hants
Thanks very much, Barry. Unfortunately I am talking about Hook in Hants but will give Parrymore a call this morning. I could always rent a van to tow it.
I am just wandering how important it is to catch the highest tide. If it has a draught of 2.3ft, could we not drop it into the river off the river wall? This would mean I could give the truck company more latitude regarding timing.
I tried Parrymore Trailers - for future reference they make boat trailers but don't rent them but he gave me another contact anyway. Hopefully boat being moved tomorrow pm and straight onto a slip at Lions Boatyard if Sandy Scott's in a good mood when I ask him this evening.
I used Beverley Transport a few years ago to move my RLM 27 from St Ives to Tyneside and would not hesitate to recommend them, phone number is in MBM most months. mnewby@generalkinematics.co.uk
Do not load your boat with a crane mounted on the truck i have seen a few disasters when the ropes come tight due to the wrong lifting cradle.!
