Everybody is talking about the 2 london shows, has anyone any news about the (1)Lowestoft Boat show and(2) the Portsmouth show>judging from what I heard and saw last year they are now defunct. any news.

I read that the guy who had organised the Lowestoft show had retired, and been unable to find anyone to continue with the show, so that now joins the dodos!

In the old days there were far more smaller shows, like the Ipswich boat show, did not do all the top gin palaces, but a range of craft at the lower end, suppose that is why that one fizzled!

To be honest the Lowestoft show was pretty poor from an exhibitor's view point. Very few serious people, those that did turn up mostly seemed to be holiday makers who had wandered in. The Portsmouth show, I understand, was even worse and was a complete disaster.

Mind you the South Wales show is meant to be pretty good - we may well show there this year.

The best things about Lowestoft were: meeting the Tide 28 father and son, who later on sailed the Atlantic. They were sailing back from Lowestoft to the Solent. The boat certainly seems a lot more of a sailing boat than other water ballasted trailer/sailers, I hope the publicity works for them.

The other was a miserable sail up to Lowestoft with Jim (Fullcircle) into wind and rain all the way, followed by a fantastic sail back from Lowestoft to Burnham in 10 hours.
