After an eventful boat searching process, I've just gotten off the phone with the broker who confirmed that balance payment was cleared and the Fairline Phantom 43 'Binks' is now ours! So, I'm afraid it's another boat being taken abroad, but I'd like to think it sort of 'stays in the family' via this forum :)

She's a very nice and clean 2002 (to 2003 model year) boat with low hours. Survey threw up mostly minor things which I'm having sorted out in due course.

Lot's of things to take care and phone calls to make before shipping her. Steve Jones is picking the boat up today from Berthon's and moving her to Swanwick. Volvopaul has promised to give the engines a thorough service. Osmotech will be installing a holding tank next week (for which the boat is moved to RK Marine). On the following week the boat will be prepped and shrink wrapped for transportation. Oh, and I'm hoping to have the boat polished too.

On the 26th of April a lorry is going to pick her up and transport her to Harwich for a ship bound for Turku, Finland. Hopefully I'll be driving the boat to her new home in Lake Saimaa on the second week of May. I just hope the ice melts by then...

I'm arranging things remotely so here's hoping everything goes to plan…

I'll update this thread as things progress, but unfortunately won't be able to provide pics yet. In fact, if anyone happens to spot her at Swanwick or RK Marine, please take a pic and feel free to post here and/or pm me for my email address.

I'll also be posting more details on the jobs done on the boat.

Here's a pic I took a couple of weeks ago.

Exciting! :):):)

very nice too. I am sure you will have a lot of fun with her.

Just a bit surprised that you did not consider motor on her own steam. I know of a couple of skippers that ply the scandinavian route all the time with deliveries, so I assumed it was cost effective

Yes you're right, especially with summer coming up, it would make a nice trip

Thank you all!

It would have been very nice to drive the boat myself, but I don't want to leave the wife alone with the kids for two weeks. I'll rather add those weeks to our (now six-week) summer holiday when we can all go boating together.

I also considered spending the holiday driving the boat slowly back to Finland with the whole family, but that would have meant missing the start of the already a very short season here. Besides having 3 and 4 year old kids onboard means I'd mostly handling the boat single handedly, which would have been slightly awkward at some places.

I drove our previous boat back from London, so there is sort of that box ticked too.

What a shame I didn't spot this earlier, I was at Swanwick and RK this afternoon - sorry. Congrats on the new boat though, very nice. Wishing you many happy times on her.

Cheers
Jimmy

The boat is on the end of hammerhead C. She arrived there at around 1945 last night, then the adventure on public transport began to get back to my car in lymington.

Have a great time with her.

Regards

Steve jones

Thank you Steve for taking her safely over.

I hope there wasn't too much adventure on the way back, though :)
