I am a bit puzzled by this. I have seen a lot of leisure boats aground through my life but am not previously aware of the skipper ending in court and being fined. I was in exactly this area in the last two summers. It's not easy.
Sir Cloudsley Shovel found that out in 1707 when he lost his own life, his ship and the 800 sailors onboard. He also lead 4 more of his fleet onto the rocks bringing the total score of sailors lost over 2000 I think.
So my puzzle is why are people ending up in magistrates court for making a mistake with their own boat?

The article seems clear enough, the beak wanted to throw the book at the miscreant and did so; whether it will hold up at appeal will depend on how rich the accused is.

Someone who lives on Scilly has filled me in. Suffice to say I don't think I can repeat what he told me here, if you want to know is it even legal for me to PM?
Lets just say the chap is alleged to have a reputation and a doting father, who may help with the fine.
