Well not the sort of boat you are probably thinking of, but when we retire we plan on buying a narrowboat and liveaboard for a few years exploring the whole of the river and canal network.

We will name the boat "Narrow Escape"

Visiting Cheshire, last year, saw a narrow boat named 'Last Command' sailed by an ex MN skipper.

A few years ago I bought an achilles 24 called blue fox which did nothing for me so changed the name to a much more apt '' Well Heeled ''. Always raised a few smiles.

A few names I have seen out there include -

"Shy Talk" (say this quickly!)
"Thanks Dad"
"Gremr" - This means nothing to anyone apart from the owner who made up the name from the first letter of family names,

Other people have covered the GK names well, but what about the Feelings?

"Feeling Free"
"Feeling Foul"
"Feeling fortyish"
"Feeling Fruity"
"Feeling rough"

"Feeling Groovy" - This was a thirty something foot crisp packet (Feeling) operated by a sailing school in the 90's. On one occasion when I had to call the coastguard to log a trafic report the conversation went like this -

"Solent Coastguard, this is MNCT6, Departing Chichester Beacon, destination ST Malo, six on board" - Could not bring myself to use the blasted name!

Reply "Ah Feeling Groovy, Solent Coastguard, have a safe trip!" Must have been fast on the computer to pull up the name which I omitted from my call!

Following on from the other two threads, I have before thought of boat names that would particularly suit certain boats, for instance, if I were to own a Feeling, it would have to be called Peculiar or Frisky perhaps. The other boat name to suit would have to go on a little 19ft Memory, that would have to be called Lost!

Our GK24 was "Gone Krackers" - sold to a Mr Johnston and she went to Srangford Lough NI in 1984'sh.

Anyone know if she still sailing?

I like the "appropriate" names one sees on GK29s.
A couple of local ones that come to mind are:-

Gin & TonicK and General Konfusion

My Jill always wanted me to get a GK so she could call it Gentle Kanga in contrast to all the Giddy Kippers, Get Knotteds and such

There was an Australian, who badly wanted to go cruising but had an unenthusiastic SWMBO. As an incentive, he promised that he would name the boat after her most favorite delight. After a few jaundiced moments thought she said 'Vegimite on Toast'.
