Or do you mean 'best value'? I got mine for 0.608% hull value. Until you need to claim you don't know whether you competitive, cheap or 'best value'. I went with very good reputation for dealing promptly and fairly .... hoping I won't find out!
I don't know about competitive quotes, I go with Pantaenius, good service, claims dealt with quickly, I have medical cover, multi trip thing, was hospitalised in portugal for three days with food posioning, (my own fault) they paid the hospital direct, no problems, no hassles. Friend of mine with them, had a major screw up (damaged keel/centreplate), they organised everthing, in Spain and paid, no hassles again. My brother also had claims, no hassles. I will be going with them again this year. No I don't work for them!
Craftinsure on the net are very cheap but need a recent survey and the ame goes for Saga insurance (if you are over 50). Craft insure does an instant quote online. Hope that helps. I haven't used either as a) too young b) survey costs too high to make the change worthwhile.
Agree entirely. I really couldn't be bothered with chopping and changing and looking for lower quotes each time the sailing season comes round. Pantaenius are excellent, they have my loyalty for two reasons - 1) they dealt so efficiently with a claim I had a few years ago and 2) whilst it might be possible to hunt round and get something a few pounds cheaper, the quality of service offered by Pantaenius is not something I would wish to risk losing by going elsewhere.
Finally - I don't think they are expensive anyway.

We insure with AXA via Moody's. Service excellent following a claim and they managed to claim all my put of pocket expenses (including a holiday) in full.
If you own a Moody you will probably get a good deal if you go via Moody's at Swanwick.
My personal advice based on actual experience - I would not touch Nautical Insurance Services Ltd, Leigh on Sea with a boat hook. Delivering my boat from Solent to East Coast last year, they wrote to my home address whilst I was on passage to say that they were not prepared to continue cover as the 'weather had detoriated'. There was nothing at all in their terms and conditions or personal correspondence to indicate they would do this.
Effectively they left me stranded in Dover, a busy commercial port, with no cover. To add insult to injury they then refused to refund the unused part of my annual premuium.
Rang Pantenius immediatley and they gave me instant cover to continue voyage.
Chose Pantenius after a commercial ship surveyor told me he wandered into the accounts department of his large company and asked the question 'Who pays up?' Unanimous response - 'Pantenious'. Haven't had cause to claim, but they are very helpful on the phone and at the Boat Show.
I would query that. I have just received mine, I had added a couple of thousand pounds worth of new electronic gizmohs to the boat, and the annual premium increased by 2.10 GBP.
have you had a renewal after the 1st of march,if not stand by for next year Quote
The underwriters have examined every policy they have been losing money for the last few years,.Your percentage has gone from 1.8%(less 40%) to 3%.however your no claims at 40% is untouched.so increase is 40% on hull .
Thank you pantaneaus.Anyone who doubts this please email and I will send copy of their letter
For years I was with Nav & Gen but for the last boat purchase the quote I had from St. Margarets (Lloyds) was substantially cheaper. I can no longer remember the figures but something like £2000+ vs £1250, as opposed to a few pounds.
