Boat in build pics (Squadron 78)

Isn't she a CNB? Not that I'd refuse an invitation on a CMN, if you would insist... :D

All the very best with the new project, looking forward to the opportunity to throw in some other crazy ideas.
Are you thinking to stick to fins or considering also gyro, to start with?
That's something to be decided even before laying the hull, I suppose.

Oops sorry, I meant the bordeaux lot, CNB. Losing my mind here with late night working!

For stabs I will stick with fins. I'm very happy with them, and with sleipner's support. I do not want to give up the space that 2 gyros would consume

After cuttting the holes in the hull for my fins Fairline had the bright idea of "moulding" in the holes using bowthruster tunnel GRP section so yes, as you say, the fins must be decided upon before even the gelcoat is painted. There are a few other mods that need to be settled before moulding, including some changes to hull windows. I have a month or so to work all this out

Aha, I see.
Well, the first thought which pops to my mind, if you'll stay with fins on such a fast vessel, is to see if it's feasible to mould some w/tight compartments around them.
Hey, you asked for input/opinions/debate, didn't you? :D

Yes I did!
I'm not ignoring the suggestion, but I'm not going to do it. Sure in a perfect world a boat would be built that way, but it aint feasible in this project. I have plans for a new custom 4.3m tender w that lovely new Yam70 so if the mother ship does a costa concordia from a stabiliser rip-out I'll be able to cruise home in style :)

Gimme a month or so to start new thread and then let's have proper debate there!

jfm, I cannot believe I missed your post on 13th April with news of your new order. Slightly perplexed you are ordering another Sq78 but like the reasoning. Of course it also means within a few months of Match II getting her bum wet for the first time we will be waiting for the news of your Sq80 order...:)

Also really interested in the 10% of changes you are planning on Match II. I know you will start an new build thread as so many have requested and I for one will (once again...) enjoy the read.

What about having a tender as a replica of the mother ship!?

I remember seeing some pics a few years ago from some relatives who went to the Monacco GP. there was some massive yacht in the harbour there and the tender was a scaled down version of the yacht!

failing that, 4.2 meter speed machine!?

I have plans for a new custom 4.3m tender w that lovely new Yam70

I was almost placing my order for a JFM tender, but I realised that for diving I might have other requirements,
then I wondered,
John, can't you find a tender that suits your needs between the zillion models on the market ? :)

But with the offer from Cokee this plan becomes really interesting,
if only for the challange,
THAT would make a interesting threat

Is that with an existing hull or a new design altogether - I would be interested in cooperating with you on that either way?

Hi Cookee. I was merely planning to order a novurania 430 from florida, which they will custom build so far as gelcoat colour, tube and trim patches colour, etc are concerned. They will container it to UK. Reason is, this tender happens to fit (just) on the Sq78 platofrm, and they will now supply it (fully plated) with the Yam 70 (which is the old yam 50/60 with a 4 valve head). All round nice job for about £24k. Semi custom rather than full custom, i suppose

If you have something better to propose (and you wouldn't surprise me if you did!) I'd be very interested. Plenty of time to consider it all

The length of the tender from transom (not tube points) to bow is critical becuase it has to fit on the platform, miss the passerelle, and not overhang the platform at the bow. The pointy aft tubes of the RIB tuck away under the passerelle so the LOA isn't important. The engine is what would hit the passerelle, hence the critical dimension is the distance measured from aft face of tender's transom at top edge, to bow of RIB. This needs to be maximum 3650mm with the Yam 70. Does that fit with any ideas you have?

There are zillions of RIBs on market but loads of them are dull and just dont float your boat. Or don't fit! I have a bit of a plan to get something a bit special. I reckon there is a market for funkier than most of what is offered on the market today, and that lightweight Yam70 opens up some nice high speed ideas...

Edit: MYAG already has a custom novu430 with Yam 60...

I believe it is officially only 30hp and those over-GRP-ed ABs are heavy pigs. We want fuunkier stuff than that!

Yeh, the tender should weigh maybe 100 kgs, with extended tubes aft and a ballast tank in the front to counterbalance an outboard of the same weight, a very rigid (kevlar?) deep V hull and seating designed so you can take the load on your knees. Oh, and a cup holder.

Seems that we have moved out of the WB league these days then.

I can work with that, let me see:

3650 from the top of the transom to the nose of the tube - would that be longer for a jet? Would diesel be an advantage or is the speed of the 70 the most attractive thing :-)

What gelcoat colour, tube and trim patches colour and other fitting would you like?

Underwater lights?

Sound system?

Matching illuminated sign (but smaller)?

What is the maximum weight?

If I can work something out it would probably be a rebranded RIB but we would fit custom tubes and split the deck and hull to make it lighter and stronger inside of even just use an existing hull and make a licensed copy if we could get the manufacturers agreement.

Thnaks cookee. In answer:
1. I just dont want a jet
2. I cant beleive I will like the weight of diesel, and petrol is no hassle anyway
3. Therefore it kinda has to be yamaha 70 cos there is nothing to beat that in this size/weight bracket afaik
4. Gelcoat white (Scott bader optima white, to match fairline)
5. Id love the tubes to be silver but might have to be light grey. With a few white and black bits
6. Console awlgrip silver (there might be a bit of silver on the mother ship - to be revealed later!)
7. Shape of GRP parts needs tobe both sexy and practical
8. fake teak decks
9. Movida upholstery prob silver too in that metallic movida
10 UW lights will be Lumishore on the engine cav plate. I already have them ready to fit
11. Modest sound system like fusion, if it can fit somewhere. I want Garmin 700 touch in the dash, plus 2 yam gauges, plus fuel gauge plus curly wire Garmin VHF handset (black box hidden away) plus stub rubber antenna. And 4 carling switches I suppose. Might be tight squeeze?
12 No illum name

The Rib-X 450 exige has some nice features but isn't quite right. Sexy but but needs more seating to be useful as a tender

Whaddya reckon?! Should I buy a shaggged/used Novu 430 then you dump the tubes, motor, everything, then do up the hull respray the gel and retube and remould the dash to sex it up and generally refit the whole thing and rebrand it, or is that daft?
