Boat in build pics (Squadron 78)

Blimey thats getting a bit Gok Wan. This is a boating forum not an ideal home forum:) I've banned scatter cushions from my boats for many years now as they serve no useful purpose other than mopping up oil from the bilges

Actually, scatter cushions do have a use.
You stuff then in cupboards before going to sea to stop the bottles of drink bashing against themselves.

itinery at this moment is:

leave Rome on 19 july
route via Giglio, Elba, Corsica to be defined
pickup guests in Toulon or Antibes area around 25 july
drop our kids in Toulon or other airport on 26 july
drop guests in Antibes around 29 july
and then some more cruising, route to be defined
to her final destination in Marseille on 12 august
plans might change, but period is fixed between 15/7 and 12/8

in wich period are you planning to go to Croatia in 2012 ?
perhaps in spring 2012 I might bring the boat back to Rome for some works
and then after that, spend one summer with BA in Croatia, and show her to my Croatian friends :)
hold on ! lets start with some smaller challanges ! :)

Just got home from our trip and we found some really great places to anchor.

I will be posting a new thread over the coming week with loads of pics of anchorage suggestions for you.

Looking absolutely great JFM. I am slightly surprised by the bows up attitude in this pic....

Anyway sh's definitely looking more bows up than in your avatar.
I was thinking the same when I first saw that pic, but on second thougth - judging also from the rooster tail of both boats - I assumed it was just a matter of sub-optimal speed.
It would also make sense that this affects less the bigger boat.
But what do I know...?

The douanes stopped us for a paperwork check but couldn’t find anything wrong with my (or JW’s and Warlock’s) paperwork so they said good day and let us go. They didn’t ask for my VAT invoice but saw it in the ship’s apers book and told me jovially “You are mad – there is no need to pay all this tax monsieur!” when they saw I had paid VAT on the boat and was running on tax-paid fuel (I must be in a goody-2-shoes phase of life). They were actually very nice and just did a routine check, no trouble at all.

- Is this a sign that there will be more controlls this year or in the future, re your article in YBW ?
- Do you think that if you had de-tax diesel and a official crew list, you would have had a more thorrow inspection ?

for Bleu Angel I am preparing:
a "blanc" crew list to be completed for every trip,
a "contract", to be made and signed each time when I have new "guests"
a logbook, in which I write, trips & contract numbers, bunkering; date, fuel type and tons, ....

do you think this will keep the douane happy ?

and by the way,
thanks for sharing info on this beautifull trip, (also to Hurricane !!!)
these reports have really opened my eyes on the beauty of that area,
although not exactly the same, at least as exiting as Croatia :)

Just so that other readers dont get worried.
All these controls/regulations are only for commercially registered craft.
Us privately registered vessels dont have to do anything like this.

I had the privilege of a guided tour of Match at the w/e.

Wow!

Suffice it to say that, standing on the hydraulic up/down platform I blurted out: "She looks huge from here, jfm". Then burst out laughing whilst the owner smiled wryly because, well, she is blimmin huge.

And very lovely.

And the engine room systems are very, very overwhelmingly complex.

Thanks again.

This thread feels like a bit of a blast from the past!

Twas a pleasure to welcome you aboard BJB. Sorry if it felt a bit rushed - lots of forum folks coming and going then a restaurant booking to get to! Hope you can come out to sea next time (or next boat, whatever!)

Doh! Are you telling us something we're not supposed to know (yet)? :D

Nah. i have an offer on the boat and the pricing is good so i might accept, but there are some Ts + Cs that aren't right, so who knows what will happen. No big deal because there have often been periods when I've discussed selling it to folks who have expressed an interest, and nothing is done till a large lady sings. I'll post one or two in-build pics of any replacement boat, naturellement, if it happens, and it is a big if. It would be 80 feet, not 100, because much as one can drool over a sanlorenzo 108 (say) i have no intention -regulations or cost wise- of going above 24m.

Fwiw, I couldn't agree more.
At risk of sounding like the fox with the grapes, I never understood why anyone should buy a 100 footer.
Megayachts are another story of course, but going just a tad over 24m doesn't make sense imho.
All the best anyway with those Ts & Cs.
What could we do next winter without a serious boatbuilding thread?! :D
