Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh yeeeeeessssss. Either leg is fine by me.

AND I'll make the tea for everyone. How's that for a deal. And a good trial for your stabilisers:D

For those who don't know the "tea" story, as Jfm said this would be 1999 or 2000 and he had his beautiful new boat, "Brayfart of Lymington" in Lymington and tcm and a couple of other formites were bringing a small speed boat back from Dover to the Solent. So jfm decided to be a good egg (see he was one even then :p) and meet them half way and escort them back 'cos he had "the chart plotter" and I somehow wangled my way on to the trip. Half way round the plan went a bit pete tong when sea sickness over took the speedboat skipper and they heaved to while the skip heaved too to. So we did the same, just waiting around in the swell in the Solent near Nabs Head if memory serves me well for them to get to the meeting point or call it quits and divert to Brighton - which they did in the end.

So there we are bobbing about in the Solent waiting for tcm's mob to decide to continue or not and I very kindly offered to make tea for everyone.

Down to the galley and the pot of nice strong "builders tea" is all merrily brewing away when jfm (and I'll blame him 'cos he was driving), decided to turn us round into the waves again and the boat bobbed a bit violently and somehow the whole pot of tea ended up on the boat's pristine white carpet. But it was OK, I didn't get scalded or hurt. Apart from my pride.

Oh dear oh dear said me and reported to jfm who in his inimitable way said, "oh don't worry I've got a spare carpet in the garage, don't fret over it". Nice bloke eh?

Now actually IMHO it was all jfm's fault anyway. a) for moving the boat round, b) for not having stabilisers and c) for forcing me to make the tea in first place.

Now some or none of the above may be true, but it's not a bad story but i've not been on one of his boats since.

So I promise NO tea (or coffee) this time. Will the beer fridge be stocked?:D

:D:D:D

Great yarn, and thanks for sharing with us Newbies.

Looking fantastic JFM.... and I love the fake crocodile skin on the saloon table.

Your sea trial brings back memories of my own in my rather more modest craft back in '11 from Brightlingsea. A similar sea state and sh*t brown sea. Mine didn't come through it with a clean sheet though, but then it being French that was never likely :)

Tee hee. Tis a true story!
OK, I'll keep you informed about dates.
The other forumite boat that tcm was driving that day in 1999/2000 belonged to, I think, long departed (from boating and this forum) BarryH. He has a maxum 3000 sports cruiser and was bringing it to Chichester from Essex Boatyards iirc, with tcm's help. Funnily enough he lives in MK and is an IT manager - if wonder if oGaryo is him reincarnated :D

Been away for a few days so have missed many posts - have you tried the horns yet?

Piers
Yes Piers. Love 'em. They were VERY loud with a nice deep tone. I'll do a video sometime with sound but you gotta be there to appreciate just how loud they are. Way way louder than the standard electric horns, and of course fully colregs compliant for the size of boat. Really pleased with them - thanks to you and Toby for all the help

Only comment for K's benefit is that the air accumulator tank in the e/room is painted matt black and should imho be gloss white, but I will get it painted :-)

That's the only reason we didn't fit them !

That and the fact the temptation to scare the living **** out of Mrs Henryf whilst sorting ropes on the front deck would be just too great to resist :)

Unlike your carpet I only have the one set of genitals when she reciprocates with a mug of scalding hot tea later in the day ;)

Glad to see all is going well. It looks huge sitting in the water.

Henry :)

Tis a true story? You sound surprised, of course it's a true story.

But I think it was Barry D, not H. And you could be right about Barry (??) being oGaryo in disguise. I've never seen the two of them post on the same thread. Hmm, suspicious or what?

Ah yes, you're right. There was a BarryH on t'forum in thee olden days but you're right that the Maxum 3000/ tcm trip guy was BarryD. I met him a few times - nice guy

JFM 'SHE' looks just great now that she has been properly baptised, will you be passing Sant Carles again on the way to her home berth? If so, it will gve me an opportunity to test my nice new Kahlenburg 460 Horns, fitted to my F43 this week......Excellent sounding horns!

Looking forward to more images in due course, something along the lines of her sitting in a sun drenched bay with that nice little tender tethered close behind!

To complete the first sea trial with no issues whatsoever is testimony to the excellent build quality and hard work of all those involved - well done indeed to the Fairline team!

So pleased the seatrial went well! She looks simply stunning. I should hope the grin has yet to wear off?

Will the beer fridge be stocked?:D

After a story like that I think the answer to your question will be yes, though it won't be JFM supplying the beers...

So pleased you like them, J. As you said, you've gotta be there to appreciate just how loud they are.
Looking at the Swanwick show, you might end up having a horn battle with the 80 pred. But it'll only have a single trumpet and yours are slightly louder. Toot toot!

As for the tank, noted and thank you. The tanks are purchased from a vendor and arrive on a pallet. Though the option of having ones tank finished in white gloss is a nice touch. The bigger tanks are white, all 75l of them..!

Ah, excellent Toby! Good to know i can out-toot the pred80 at the show :-). Do you know what horns the Princess 72 has ? That will be Princess's biggest boat and it would be good to out-toot that too! :-)

I'm looking forward to seeing the pred80 in the flesh. Very nice machine. Has same fin stabilisers as my boat - Sunseeker have switched wholesale to Sleipner stabs, and away from ABT Trac, for boats up to 100 and a bit feet

I'm only pulling your leg about the tank. A respray to white will be easy. I don't want 75 litres thanks, (sheesh!)

As said above, I'm really pleased with the kahlenberg horns, and thanks for all your help. Seriously nice sound - you have to hear it live to see (and feel) how nice and I hope a few forumites who might be thinking about speccing these horns get the chance to do that in Swanwick (before the Council come round and shut us down, LOL!)

Hi John
Much as I'd like to drop in at SC like last time I'm trying to get her shipped to Genoa - that's 90nm from home as opposed to 400nm from Valencia. I dont know yet till the shipping company confirms. I'll let you know. I'm asking PSP to do the shipping - they did a great job last time and are nice folks to deal with

I'll keep the thread going with images until she arrives in France, like last time, to keep the whole build+delivery story in one place

Anyway, you guys need to take a long cruise over to SofF and Corsica one of these summers :-)

IIRC, The Prin 72 has electric AFI horns. Not going to make any comment about noise difference, I will leave it to you to find out how different they sound.

I've yet to do my check on the 80 pred horn install at the yard [read: perv on the 80 pred], but if she is anything like the 80 yacht then it'll be another smashing boat! Though no doubt it'll have a couple of odd-ities about accessibility to vital components...

Thank you for the complement about the K's, I will pass your thanks back to Erick Kahlenberg as these were his latest design / creation. As for the Council knocking on the door to say shurrup at Swanwick, just press the button again & they'll soon disappear..

Hi John - hope you're enjoying your K-460s! Have you noticed much of a difference in sound from the previous horns?

..."Brayfart of Lymington" ...D

I was looking at Countdown on Sky last night and the anagrams were very funny :) Sorry my sense of humour is often misunderstood.

Great story Coliholic and very understanding of JFM in my opinion.

Agree with all the sentiments above, Match 2 is a fantastic demonstration of British workmanship and it is great to see her get some exposure. I remember the Match 1 thread as a lurker a couple of years back and figured that this forum is a great community and again credit to JFM for the continued support.

JFM, I will never have the opportunity to build from new as you do but I would like to send my best wishes for the handover and seasons ahead.

Had a trip over to Ipswich yesterday and got some new photo's for everyone, there was no sign of life on board John so I guess you had your fill for this week on Wednesday. At least now she is no longer looking bare, MATCH now proudly named......although I'm not sure that Fairlines pigeon scaring machine is as good as their boats!!!! (Be assured my lad scared them off before they did what they usually do all over boats!! And trust me everyone, she looks the absolute mutts nuts! (just a shame i didn't get a look onboard!!Hint Hint:o)

Just out of interest - what's the little door to the right of the steps in this picture? Shore power, water, etc, I guess? Briefly thought maybe fuel as well, but I suppose it may be below the top of the tanks so that must be in the side of the deckhouse.
