Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

......Hi John - hope you're enjoying your K-460s! Have you noticed much of a difference in sound from the previous horns?.....

Yes, delighted, a huge difference.

The Kahlenberg's are very well engineered and easy to fit, it took only a couple of hours to remove the old horns, tubing and compressor and to fit the new horns, tubing, compressor plus the additional air receiver and solenoid valve.

The electrics were local and simple - I picked up +12v (backed-up by a 20A breaker) from the live side of the horn rocker switch located on the overhead control panel, this as you know runs the compressor through its pressure switch and charges the air receiver and then +12v from the switched side of the horn rocker to activate the in-line solenoid valve provided. I left the horn breaker on all day, but once the receiver was charged, which only took a minute or so, the compressor stayed off until the horns were tested several times!

Excellent tone, more importantly significantly louder than the original air horns that were fitted - yet similar in size. I found that everything necessary was provided in the installation kit with good instructions to boot, even included some spray wax! I'm very pleased with them. I recall fitting new horns to my Targa a few years back that were cheaper but nowhere near as good - can't wait to pass Jenny Wren when next out, need to keep Hurricane on his toes.......

At least if we do at some stage get over to SofF to visit Match II, JFM might hear me sounding 5, mind you, with that sound system.......

What a stunning thread, an absolutely fascinating build/customisation process, and of course a truly beautiful lady at the end of it......very very nice JFM, thank you for letting all of us forumites share the experience.

If I ever get to be anywhere that Match is moored it would be an absolute pleasure to see her - if not, thanks anyway for letting me have a glimpse aboard both during and after construction via the many fantastic descriptions and images, it has been a real pleasure.....if Carlsberg did boaty threads this would be the one, you have done the lady named MATCH proud......:-)

Had a trip over to Ipswich yesterday and got some new photo's for everyone, there was no sign of life on board John so I guess you had your fill for this week on Wednesday. At least now she is no longer looking bare, MATCH now proudly named......although I'm not sure that Fairlines pigeon scaring machine is as good as their boats!!!! (Be assured my lad scared them off before they did what they usually do all over boats!! And trust me everyone, she looks the absolute mutts nuts! (just a shame i didn't get a look onboard!!Hint Hint:o)
Thnaks for pictures alchemy and sorry to miss you. Next weekend maybe! Fairline Ipswich were having a weekend off so I was in Essex on sunday finishing the tender electronics install and loading it into a transporter trailer, and was in Ipswich all day yesterday (Monday).

This week they are going to lift her out, tweak the props, and fit the tender chocks and tender, and have her back in water by Friday. That's the plan at least. If you happen to pass by and get pics of tender installed that would be great. The tender is a big beast, which is why I've had the Match letters installed quite high on the transom (in case you were wondering!)

As can be seen on your pics the flybridge rails have been partly removed. Some have gone to Trend in Norfolk for re-work: there were some glitches. Other bits have gone to the excellent www.MrStainless.co.uk in Levington to have liferaft cradles welded on. Busy times

Just out of interest - what's the little door to the right of the steps in this picture? Shore power, water, etc, I guess? Briefly thought maybe fuel as well, but I suppose it may be below the top of the tanks so that must be in the side of the deckhouse.
Pete, the little door reveals 2 x shorepower leads and any dockside telephone and TV/sat connections (I don't have dockside telephone or TV/Sat; I de-specced them becuase I couldn't see the point in them here in 2013 with mobile phones and sat domes etc). When you open the little door and press the switches, one or both shorepower leads squirt out like toothpaste, using an electric deploy/retract system that coils the cable in drums in the engine room. This is necessary because the cable is too thick to coil and carry by hand. It sounds prone to breakdown but it didn't let me down once on Match 1

Young Coli;) better have the full 'shilling' as I'm going to be on board too .. (I hope, subject to etc etc ..);)

Funnily enough, I was tidying up my fasteners this morning looking for some M5 x 50 machine screws and came across a shilling that I'd saved especially in case anyone took up a bet. :D

JFM, If you are allowing Colin aboard, please ensure that you keep him in sight at all times! Do not let him sit at the lower helm while you are on the flybridge, unless he is in a straight-jacket.

I've been assuming all along Forbsie that when the white van drops him off at the the boat he will be strait jacketed as standard NHS procedure? :D :D

Yes, should be good when its lit up!!

Al. :D

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you to get her ready for swanwick! I'm popping over to Shotley marina on Saturday as they have a small boat show going on so I may well go down to ipswich on the way home so will call past and take some more photos with the tender on. Do you have a set date yet for the journey form Ipswich to EBY?

Goodo. Current plan is handover (documents and final papers, risk passing to me, etc) Friday 3rd May and likely sail away to Essex Tuesday 7th, depending weather of course. Then straight into crane at Essex and on hardstanding there for a week of work (A Glaze hull, and GRP artisan Allen fits new window to transom door, Laser installed, I load my gear on) then off to Swanwick maybe Wednesday 15th May, erk

Nice idea, but thing is, in bright daylight when you cannot see the lighting, it would look like Matchi or Match1...

I think you'd have to have a big horizontal match as an underline, with a red bit at the right hand end...

I suppose that you could have the right side of the 'H' wider so it still looks like MATCH in the day, then divide it with white bar of LEDs only when lit in the dark! Anyway, it's fine just as it is, just like the rest of the boat excellent attention to detail throughout!

I can also recommend the work of Mr Stainless - they've done quite a lot of work on my yacht.

Unfortunately his website is currently being revamped and the web person has omitted to put the pnone number on the front page

So here it is: 01473 659295
The owner is Mark Winger.

No connection - just a happy customer.

Edit: New website now up & running
