Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

I know it's not standard, but I would have thought you would have specced lights on your tender. Not necessarily a full set of navigation lights, but something.

They are required if you tow your tender, yes/no?

Lumishore do underwater lights for ribs. Also surprised you did not have any of those. :) Though they are for decoration, can still be useful if anyone goes diving off a rib.

It has full imo nav lights. R/G on the bow, white on a hidden stick. Plus moodlighting in the deck. All LED. It will have all-colour Lumishores too, when it arrives in UK. The thing is getting fully tricked up when it gets to UK. I didn't want to overdo the tricking done in Florida becuase I want to see the boat first - I bought it by email and from photos only. More pics after the tricking up, next February

TBH I only ski a few times a year
I can think of a solution to that problem. Something along the lines of a forum waterski cruise... :D

Btw, the pole on such RIB would tackle a problem that doesn't exist, imho.
Just buy (or make) a floating rope bridle, that's all you need.

Nope. The skin fitting on side of hull would be above the w/line, thus gravity is enough.
Same arrangement as for the anchor locker, typically.

Fab looking replacement for the Avon, very interested to know the why/wherefors on the black yam prop. Did you keep the OME prop on Match1 tender or fit S/S?

BTW - when you 'did' the Match1 bell how did you name it? Same as the transom detail? Assume you have the same issue with official ship's Bell on this boat too?

I just kept the OEM white ali prop on Match1. Don't see the point of S/s. I bought another prop for w/skiing, 2inches less pitch, only used once, and I still have that, but I recently discovered it wont fit the 70hp becuase that has a bigger gearbox for the extra torque. I'll stick it on ebay

I didn't do a bell. Official would be a 300mm bell on this sized boat. Surveyors tend not to insist, but i thought mine would, and so i bought one at major cost (£600 iirc) but in the end he didn't care so I put on board Match1 (stowed away) a token 3 inch bell that would be more suited to a chritmas tree. I still have the 300mm brass bell here in a box (anyone in need?)

Kahlenberg will cast lovely bells with the ship's name but they are serious stuff and I dont really want it hanging there on the foredeck. I will never use it, due to having Kahlenberg horns for fog. So I'll have no bell on Match2, apart from a token christmas tree bell in a cupboard somewhere :-)

I thought this might be better for "Spot the Boat", but ...

I thought a little glamour on the thread might help !

Not sure "Tricking Up" is quite the appropriate terminology:eek:;) This my new "favourite" lifestyle shot. SM Colour-Change on a rib -- taken at a few knots on an iPhone!

Fantastic - u/w lights to match your lipstick! Searush will be delighted. ;);):D:D

Here are a few updates. I'm going to the factory in a few days so will get more details then.

Here are the tabs (and Lumishore lights). Looking good, and I hope they meet with MapisM approval (they cost enough MapisM...!). (We should get some MM stickers made :D). They are all same-metal ss, position sensors, auto retract when engines off, and considerably stronger than Match1's partly plastic installation, about which MapisM's predictions (=not really good enough) turned out to be right :). Pic also shows shafts and P brackets installed

Below is the custom transom window for the crew cabin. Looks very nice and flush/neat

Below is an overview of the hull. It has all the liner moulds in. This is first s78 to have white gelcoat on liners; they are usually cream but that contravenes my "no cream" rule in this boat. Needs some internal bulkheads in the accom space, 3rd fuel tank, a couple of engines, and then the top goes on
IMG_0048.jpg

Here is the flybridge deck/saloon lid, with the main deck moulding/hull to the left/right. This lid will go on the deck in next couple of days they say
IMG_0054.jpg

Below is the soft patch in case the engines ever have to come out through the roof, (=nightmare scenario)
IMG_0057.jpg

And a close up of the flybridge deck underside. It is GRP-rigid foam-GRP cored sandwich with stiffeners, and the little squares are ali blocks to be drilled and tapped, to attach flybridge furniture etc. Fairline are fastidious about watertightness and so only use the drill+tap method, with the holes tapped blind not right through. This method can never leak, whereas through-bolting with sealant and penny washers (as used by many of not most other builders) can leak after a long time or if someone maintaining the boat makes a mistake or something

Finally these are the fuel tanks across the front of the engine room.

Timingwise we are about 3 weeks from hull-out-of-mould and 8 weeks from gelcoat-painted-into-mould

Sorry if the reply already is in the thread somewhere...: Did the Match 1 trim tabs break or did they just not work as intended?
They were the standard bennetts. They were ok 95% of time and the hydraulics were very relaible (as is suaul with Bennett), but the pivot pins at ends of rams are plastic and designed to break, and did break a couple of times. Not sure why: perhaps I reversed with them a bit down, perhaps it was in bad weather, I dunno. But they were clearly a bit under specced for a 60 tonne boat. Also they had no position sensors. So an upgrade seemed in order for M2

I thought the lack of position sensors was a thing of the past???
How come?
I mean on M1 you didn't actually know where the tabs where at any given point?

cheers

V.
The base-spec models among various brands have no sensors. Failrine fitted/fit the base models on sq78, on grounds you hardly use them, without any tick-box option to upgrade, and I wasn't paying attention to this on Match1 hence it got build with base-spec tabs. By the time MapisM commented, it was way too late :-) In boat building it's much easier to get more things right second time around :-) To be fair, the M1 tabs were kinda ok and mostly did the job and you can judge the position by feel
