Hi, I purchased my boat about 18 months ago and was told by the broker she's a Princess 36 (1986 or thereabouts).

Only problem is according to the Princess website they never made a 36 that looks like this - closest they had was a 35 but it looked quite different. She's had a bit of work done - the swim platform has been extended for example, but doesn't appear to be any major rebuilding done.

Hull looks to be fibreglass over a cedar core - again, I don't think that was a typical Princess construction.

I'm hoping someone here recognises the hull and can help me figure out what I've actually bought.

Some photos below, but I have plenty more if something specific would help.

Boat is currently in New Zealand but could have been built anywhere I guess.

Welcome. Definitely not a Princess - nor anything made in the UK. princess is often used to describe such boats as in their early days they were the benchmark for 30-40' planing boats in the UK.

The hull type of your boat is common in the US for sports fishing, but my guess is that it is home built or a one off to plans. That extended transom is unusual and not the sort of thing a professional builder might add.

Just take the boat for what it is and enjoy it.

I think you have a 35’ Viking convertible.

Back in the early 90’s, Viking were representing Princess in the US and I suspect somewhere along the way, someone with your boat jumped on the bandwagon to call it a Princess to gain the potential premium uplift it may have garnered.

Check your hull ID no. Against Vikings records and i suspect you’ll find your boat.

You guys are awesome! Thanks, definitely looks like a Viking. I'll get down there on the weekend and see if I can find the hull ID somewhere, assuming it's still on the boat and hasn't been removed or painted over.

Thanks for the quick ID.

You should find it moulded into the hull on the starboard quarter just under the rubbing strake. It is called HIN Hull Identification Number. Google the term to find out how to interpret it.
