Boat conversation with wife……..to day

To which a potential answer is -
'No, but
(1) we'd have a lot of fun (perhaps more) anyway, and
(2) for less than the difference in price between the Gibsea and a boat in which could (in our imagination) get us to the Caribbean (but we probably never actually take there), we could fly there for a holiday'.
 
Walking around Brighton Marina years ago I said to my Mrs, " That's nice, how about spending the summer wandering in that?" ( looking at a well kept Victoria 30)
She replied, " I wouldn't mind ".......
Stunned silence! Did she really say that?
We stopped and looked down from the elevated walk, then I realised she was looking at a Fairline Squadron 50 a couple of pontoons along from the Victoria. :LOL:
 
After 25 years sailing a Westerly 25 round the uk SWBO said “I think we should get a boat with a toilet door”. After a short conversation she said “ you are always pushing the tide times so we need a bilge keel for when you get it wrong “. Then she said “it has to have a low freeboard so that I can step off with the lines “.
Three months later we bought our perfect boat with these criteria (and mine) and she is great!

My wife also insisted on a solid door to the heads. As there was only 1 boat with that feature that fulfilled all her other requests, life was simple.

At which point one has to explain that such features are only available on yachts less than x years old, longer than y feet long, which sail like a dream, have all the latest gear, and will cost all of her inheritance, but you reluctantly agree she should have what she wants. 😁 :devilish:
 
I am really enjoying Wansworth's continuing saga re finding his perfect small cruising yacht - please do keep them coming @Wansworth

I am sure that a Gibsea 242 would get yourselves to the Caribbean OK, especially if it has a solid door on the heads (or is your missus happy with a curtain?).
Over the years I have seen many similar sized older yachts arriving here from 'across the pond' with couples on board, and some even had an able seaman dog or cat as well.
Including an Offshore Quarter Tonner, a Hurley 22, a Westerly Cirrus 22, and many others.
And then there are all the Mini Transat 6.5 metre boats - a solid loo door would be a definite luxury here though. :)
 
Closer inspection of photos which I hadn’t noticed on my viewing was the provision for a row lock on the transome of the Gibsea 242 although a boarding ladder has been bolted on to the transom whether this affects the use of a sculling oar will have to be checked.Certainly the boat is a fron runner at the momment .Further conversation with the wife she threw doubt on my choice saying ,how she found out ,😳would I use it like a shed staying mostly in the marina or down the cafe.This creates a dilema as the other choice is a benetaue Baraduer with a good inboard but certainly lacking in internal fit out……but is considerably cheaper😏.Iam unable to decide so putting off the problem till after Christmas.

Solid,if that’s possible but a bit tight beam wise although one should be wedged in so to speak😂
