Boat advice

Thanks Garold,

Just would of thought that the outboards would be thirsty and expensive, I'm not too worried about the maintenance etc as I'm a mechanic so hopefully apart from parts cost should be cheap !

Just to throw a curve ball in to the works ( not to mention blow the budget out of the water ! ) any thoughts on a Antares 980 fly with Volvo D4 260 ? I know it won't be a speed demon but its a hansom looking boat and a bit more space etc .

Thanks

With x2 150hp outboards our Antares 8.80 averaged about 1.5 mpg. I think that more careful use of the throttles would get this closer to about 1.8mpg.

As for the Antares 980, we were in Jersey a couple of weeks ago and these seem very popular there. The dealer was telling me that they are the ideal Channel Islands boat because they have enough guts to be untroubled by the tide/currents, and they have nice high bows with a nice ride for when it's a bit choppy. I think your fuel consumption will still be 1.5-2.5 mpg if you have twin engines but at least it will be on diesel.

They don't seem to have the cache of some other brands and so you may find good value for money with one.

Thanks very much for the replies .

I had looked at the Aquador 26HT but seem to be quite expensive.

Thanks again

The Aquador is stronger built, with better system design. I had a 23HT and it was a better Sea boat than a 28ft Regal. However lower build numbers mean they do command a premium and a 26HT would be great for what you want, but I would go Peche Promenade route.

Hi Plum .

Thanks for that, the ones I had looked at did have a bowthruster . Do these have protection around the prop to allow it to sit on the sand on a tidal mooring ?
Children are young so thought we may get away with it space wise .

There is no problem drying out. On hard sand the prop would be well away from the sand. I have dried out several times on the very soft Essex mud also. Also, regarding drying out on hard sand, the 760 has a galvanised steel shoe on the aft skeg and a short length of stainless steel band at the bow fitted for the job. The shoe on the aft skeg extends aft to the bottom bearing of the rudder so lots of protection. Legs can be fitted if not already there. The 760 has grp reinforcing patches fitted from new where the leg fittings are bolted making retrofit easy. The manufacturers manual shows where to drill. If you can cope with a 25ft boat for the 4 of you it will be good. Not many 25ft boats have an rcd B (offshore) rating. Any more help let me know.

Went and had a look around on a Antares 980 on Friday really impressed its got the Volvo D4 260 lump in it. Not had a sea trial in it yet.
Looks in very good condition and has a lot more room than the 760.
Would love to here from anyone with one .
Thanks
