Just bought a working project boat with a 2.5 BMC Diesel. Looking for a manual and sources of spares, especially service parts. Thanks

As far as I know, you won’t have an issue. Or certainly there didn’t used to be. My old man had twin thornycroft 2.5 in a boat years ago. Almost certain that they are or are related to bmc 2.5’s. T154’s I think they were called. There is also a leyland 2520 version I think. Presumably both similar things to yours. Look them up for parts. I’d think the usual guys like asap and keyparts would easily supply with all you need. May be wrong but I think these things are derived from the automotive version. Used in many forms. May even have been used in black taxis at one point. Hope that helps

Unless its had a very hard life you shouldnt need spares - any motor factor for oil & fuel filters.PM me when the system
allows you to.

I bought a boat with a 1986 BMC 2.5 Diesel. (Thornycroft 90) as 40 years ago when I had a garage I would work on these engines. I thought that engine spares would be like parts for a 1986 MGBGT and you could get everything. But it appeared that parts for these engines are hard to get hold of. I wanted to get a set of engine spares. One particular part appears to be unavailable. I wanted a Water Pump as a spare. Could not find one anywhere. There are places which will recondition these water pumps providing you send them your old one.
I also made a mistake with the electrics , I thought the Lucas Alternator may not be up to all the extra navigation equipment I was going to fit, so I bough a new higher output alternator which was a nightmare to wire up.
I should have kept the original alternator on it. (I still have the alternator which I am going to put on ebay.
Good engine but dated now.
I was able to download a workshop Manual Perhaps 80 pages.
Some engine bolts pre-date metric and some may be whitworth.
I would consider getting an electric fuel pump.

Am I right I’m thinking these had relations to old hackney black cabs or was that a smaller engine ?
