I would like to borrow a USB BlueChart (Garmin) programmer. I have bought the Garmin 2006 Chart Plotter and CD Atalantic. Now need to get a blank datacard and the use of the USB Programmer. Anyone out there programmed the dtatcards before? Can I programm straight from the PC through the serial link on the Garmin 2006? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: BlueChart USB Programmer

I suggest you speak to Garmin in UK. They are extremely helpful on this type of question.

I have the programmer and have downloaded several charts. It's quite straightforward, if tedious. When I asked them a month ago there was no manufactured lead to connect the plotter to the PC but they will advise connections. In fact, from memory, it may be in the manual.

I bought the programmer and a blank card as a kit, it's also available from Garmin, or mine came from Cactus. It wasn't desperately expensive, certainly not compared to the 2006 or 2010. Incidentally, what a superb piece of equipment they are.

Re: BlueChart USB Programmer

Hi

I have made a serial lead and downloaded the latest firmware for the 2006 and that worked great. What i am trying to find out is if the 2006 can program the datacard straight from the 2006 and through the serial connection just like the Garmin 176C.

I have the 176C and have loaded charts onto the chips with a USB reader/programmer and also direct to the unit. I had to get the USB chip reader as one of my Sony VAIO's, the desk top, does not recognise the 176 when connected voa the direct lead. This is a problem on a few machines due to synchronising software running in the background from other products. I have the USB lead with reader for the 176 size chips if you want to borrow it.
