Coastguards yesterday discribed a incident on the River Teign as one of the most bizarre that they have ever dealt with.
Apparently four very large candles of 4 inches in diameter had being placed in a metal container,
and set afloat in the river and had come to rest against a inflatable dingy tied to small yacht with
two people asleep on board.
Consequently the tender caught on fire and was about to ignite the yacht as well, this was spotted by a member of a local boatwatch scheme who
raised the alarm at 2.30 in the morning, coastguards arriving on the scene tried to wake the couple by shouting but had to resort to the firing off of a maroon to rouse them.
Who then managed to put the fire out with buckets, Lucky people or what!.......
