Beta Engines ?

I'm about to replace a 28 year old Bukh DV10 (10hp) inboard with a modern day equivalent. After some fact finding I came across a Beta Marine engine offering 13hp, twin cylinder and fresh water cooling at a very reasonable price. I'm aware that these engines are based on a well proven industrial block but is there anyone who has first hand experience of using or owning a similar model ? Thanks !

This is the replacement engine that has been fitted in dozens of Albin Vegas, with great success.

The man who can tell you more is Steve Birch of the Vega Association of Great Britain:

I marinised a Kubota engine last year after long deliberation.
This is the "base " engine for Beta , Nanni & other "Marine" engines.
It is a well proven light weight Hi speed diesel engine for which parts are readily available without the "marine mark up".
I have info on the 10 & 20 hp engines, if U would like more inf Pls Eml.

We put a Beta 20 in our Hurley 30 in 2001, no problems at all, after sales service from Beta has been excellent. They will send spares anywhere in 48 hours. Service points easy to reach and the oil sump pump that they put on is a very good idea.

Hi
having supplied over seventy of these Beta engines to Vegas around the world I can only heap praise on them. Beta really try and help the buyer. The BZ482 (2 cyl 13.5HP) is based on the Kubota Z482 so spares are available worldwide. The marinisation is first class and with the high enertia flywheel there is no stalling when going from forward to reverse. If you need any further information then email me at steve@albinvega.com I will try and get you a very good price. Never had a problem with one, ask any Vega owner..
