Paul’s replies were repeats of wastefulness we all who use inverters live with.
It’s being a little disingenuous to suggest that other inverter users are unaware particularly regular forum users, but useful to be reminded I agree.

I dont think the issue being raised was about inverters, it was more about the fact that you were going from dc to ac to dc if you see what I mean. Inverters have their place as some items are ac powered. TV sets generally however although have an ac plug, they also have an inline brick transformer feeding them with dc.

I have no problem running 22" TV off 350w inverter, the loss is minimal and we have spare battery capacity anyway.

Inverters have never given me any problems either if you have good capacity, I currently (no pun intended) have 600Amp/h and will probably add another 125.
Keeping charged off shore 200W solar keeps them well topped up.

I entirely agree anyone who thinks they own a thread would be very foolish indeed, I would suggest it becomes a forum property without restrictions on anyone making a contribution regardless of how repetitious or boring.
Likewise the OP and or any other authorised member operating strictly within the rules can be critical of any post they disagree with.

It is now very clear that my taking you up on a comment you made, nobody else, a comment unwarrranted about an individual doing his best to provide information to customers, who is unaware and unable to respond to a choice of words regarding their abilities or lack of them.
Had you phrased your comments differently, for example ‘ask to speak to someone more experienced’ rather than someone ‘smarter’ in the full knowledge they could not respond.

Certainly. People often stumble accross these threads in the future and the extra information offered up is often useful to them even if not to the OP. I'm certainly not targeting you, simply explaining why it's irelevant if you already know something as mentioned above. You clearly have a bee in your bonnet about something despite getting some pretty good advice throughout the thread from various people. It might be better to just let the thread end given you've now bought a TV

If your referring to my comments re the repeated referral to ‘wastefulness’ quite what was being ‘wasted’ was never made clear, but despite having made it clear I fully understood his point, agreed it was inefficient but had invested in a good size battery bank and efficient charging system, that I preferred the inverter route indeed as others here had confirmed.
Further advice along the same lines was repeated, not I feel certain in the interests of posterity.
It wasn’t until later following my criticism of his ‘get someone smarter’ approach to a young Curry advisor who had been most helpful, that I was somehow rude and arrogant to everyone who had contributed, and, that he wouldn’t bother next time, that I felt entitled to point out to him that none of his advice had made me any the wiser.
My thanks and appreciation to all here is a matter of record.
As to a bee in my bonnet, if anything it is the uncalled for snide patronising remarks about an individual he hadn’t spoken to or had any idea of his level oh knowledge, safely from the anonymity of his keyboard.
His comment ‘ask for someone smarted’ could have well be continued with ‘like me’
I took up his comment in the lads defence, for doing so was accused of being humourless and a bundle of laughs down the pub, in what he considered was justification,
The good advice I received came from other sources for which I have expressed my appreciation.
When I first posed the question I was prepared for the expert who insists his way must be followed, comparable to other topics such as battery charging where some consider those who use a manual 1-2-OFF switch as idiots when super electronics can do better, custom and practice and opposite opinions are not tolerated, you are probably very aware or such threads.
I did not however expect to be criticised for defending someone who had been a help to me from being patronised a form of bullying abhorrent to me.
The actual threads purpose ended a while ago, but if others comment I’m happy to reply.
I do hope that resolves this issue.

The thing being wasted is power which is hard to come by on a boat so it’s usual for sailors to make the system as efficient as possible to avoid deep discharge of batteries which will cause permanent damage. It’s your boat so waste all the power you like, I’ve certainly maintained that view throughout as have others, but we’ve also explained the advantages of a properly wired in DC solution.

We have a TV in the corner of the lounge at home. It is an analog television and not been turned on since we went digital! We don't miss it.

In the last month I've watched dolphins, sworn at pots, got confused by fishing vessels, dodged wind farms, been asked very politely to remain 2 nm from a survey ship, witnessed the RNLI in action, seen at first hand a massive container ship turn 2° to port and squeeze between me and a wind farm, seen some very, very strange ways that people tie up their boats, listened to some amazing accents, got frustrated by the lack of wind, got angry/scared by too much wind and learned how to control a boat at 179° off the wind! Who needs TV when you get on the water?

400W of solar, and upgraded generator on a 4108.
Power to burn, had two freezers one for food one for beer, and a fridge.
Here is a new control panel I built to replace the existing, ripped out old wiring using thin wall tinned cable.

I'd say that use twice as much power to run something is wasteful. But, if you're happy with that i'd just buy the TV of your choice and run it from the inverter, no point in going the DC-DC converter route. If you happen to have a solar system that is capable of providing more power than you would normally use, it doesn't really matter.

However, your certainly, whilst being wrongly accused of the initial patronising jibe far from being absolved, as in the following post you show your full unconditional support for the insult, it by including every Curry employee with your disgraceful following contribution:-
