Best TV sets for onboard.

Will Curry have anyone smarter :)

Another way to see which ones are DC is to look up a power adaptor and see which models it fits, for instance: https://www.amazon.co.uk/POWER-adap...90e9e&pd_rd_wg=8Utrb&pd_rd_i=B0794HMQJD&psc=1
Bit insulting don’t you think.
I found the ease of speaking from their site, to a human being rather refreshing compared to the increasing use of robots favoured by banks.
If their technical knowledge is not up to your standards so be it, but their politeness could well make up for it.

Warning: sense of humour alert !!!!

Your inverter will use about half an amp, just for being switched on, with nothing plugged in. That's fine if you want to microwave a tin of beans, but it's very wasteful just to run a TV, it will almost double the power consumption of a 24" TV. The CD-CD converter i simple to connect, jut connect to a switched 12V supply, the TV end is just as simple, cut the plug off of the 12V adaptor and join it to the DC-DC converter output.
Thank you Paul, I don’t consider it ‘wasteful’ to use the amp/hrs I have invested in.

I'd say that use twice as much power to run something is wasteful. But, if you're happy with that i'd just buy the TV of your choice and run it from the inverter, no point in going the DC-DC converter route. If you happen to have a solar system that is capable of providing more power than you would normally use, it doesn't really matter.

Ahhh the usual excuse for rudeness or insulting language ‘I was only joking’ particularly when the individual concerned is unaware and unable to respond.
We can all be rude and insulting and I have been accused of such behaviour, depending on who and what was said an apology suffices, but my main contention is that nobody has the right not to be offended, and that if freedom means anything it is the right to tell others what they do not wish to hear (G Orwell)

200w of solar.

Guess you don't know what the smiley was for.

You must be a bundle of laughs in the pub.

In my pub we offend each other for fun and do not hide behind any excuses, perhaps a few pints with us would answer your jibe.

Is there a particular reason for your rude and arrogant posts ?

Particularly as everyone here has done nothing but try to help you. Next time, i certainly won't bother.

Personally I find the best tv on board is the one that isn’t there.
I enjoy the radio, or read a book ( I now have over 300 books on my Kindle) or do those odd little repairs/mod’s that always seem to be needed.

My inverter set up is very similar a 3000w.
My choice of 24 inch, was considering a 19 until advised differently, which also has physical dimensions that fit an alcove perfectly.
We have a Panasonic at home, it to has a very good picture. TV on my boat, a first for me.
I too have a large inverter that I rarely turn on because of the power consumption of the unit itself. For the tv I have a small separate inverter of about 400w which is sufficient to power the tv and amp. It powers just one socket.

It is now very clear that my taking you up on a comment you made, nobody else, a comment unwarrranted about an individual doing his best to provide information to customers, who is unaware and unable to respond to a choice of words regarding their abilities or lack of them.
Had you phrased your comments differently, for example ‘ask to speak to someone more experienced’ rather than someone ‘smarter’ in the full knowledge they could not respond.
Quite how my coming to a young persons defence, and I quote “a bit insulting don’t you think” which was immediately classed as a ‘sense of humour alert’ in justification of your smarter jibe at them, can possibly be considered by you or anyone as insulting or rude is pretty staggering.
If I may go further, not standing up for others is an acceptance of a form of bullying.
Now you may be considered here an expert in these tv matters, and you probably are, along with which should be a respect for others less knowledgeable, in fact I would say you have a duty in this regard, not being so let’s you down with such unfair and quite possibly incorrect assumptions of someone you have scant knowledge of.
As to others here, I have paid my regards and thanks to them for their help and support, to infer my remarks to you in an way applies to them is simply a further means of justifying yourself.

My sentiments entirely as previously stated, I’m compromising with younger family members taking an interest in being on the water.
Like you I have a fair kindle library, and with advancing years memory fades so re-reading many is as enjoyable the second time around as the first was.

Paul, if I may add, whether you reply to any request for assistance here either now or in the future is entirely a matter for you, examining all advice given to me, in all honesty yours has been the least useful of all, repeatedly focused on the wastefulness, inefficient yes, we already are well aware.
Some of my drinking friends would phrase it rather differently, they would certainly test your ‘humour alert’ and tell you it’s your round next.

If you are so well aware then why ask for help in the first instance?

Paul's comment was merely pointing out that you can clearly see from an image on Curry`s website that the tv has a dc input and it would be reasonable to assume someone selling the item would have some knowledge of it.

As for his advice about being wasteful to convert voltage from dc to ac then back to dc, this may not be an issue for you but may be for others. We do not know of what your power supplies and requirements are on board. Looking at many threads on here, power management is a concern to many in trying to balance their usage requirements with their supply from solar, wind etc.

I really dont think there was any bullying as you imply and may just be worth reading the thread again.

I asked for help from the forum not any particular individual.
Paul’s replies were repeats of wastefulness we all who use inverters live with.
It’s being a little disingenuous to suggest that other inverter users are unaware particularly regular forum users, but useful to be reminded I agree.
My complaint was not about the quality of his advice, but his casual dismissal of a young person doing a job and his implication as to his level of smartness, patronising at best.
Such casual insults should not go unchallenged, many today fearful of speaking out, but I most certainly am not.
If he doesn’t like his poor or patronising choice of words being challenged then tough.
My point on his usefulness in this occassywas prompted by his rather airy ‘not sure I will respond next time’ gosh what will we all do without his pearls of wisdom?

As to re-reading posts quite where have I been rude or arrogant, to which he included other contributors?
Very well done in coming to the aid of someone you feel has been misjudged, it’s time more did.

Yes you do know, I have made my requirements and my powers supplies very clear.

If I hadn’t quite what has that to do with my defence of an advisor practically classed as thick by an acknowledged authority here?
I will do so again if needed, as should anyone demanding similar respect for themselves.
Not woke that’s for certain.

Quite true, but a little credit due to others knowledge in inverter experience and selection would not go amiss.
Whose experience, the person who finds this thread in a couple of years? Threads don't belong to those who start them, and knowledge offered isn't limited to just what you ask for.
