I have a Garmin 725e, these are well made, can be operated one handed and waterproof to 1mtr. The price is about £200, but you should be able to get a spare battery with that for that price at the show. Garmin have a superb after sales service which IMHO is worth a few quid.

I bought the Standard HX260E at last years show. You can find it now for about £150-£160 MES or Aladdins Cave. Superb piece of kit. Built to last, Waterproof to 1Mtr., Nicad & disposable batteries. Excellent value for money & works superbly.

I have the same one and agree absolutely. Despite receiving almost continuously and occasionally transmitting I have yet to completely discharge batteries, seem to last veeery long.

Standard Horizon is a brand of Yaesu, a name that speaks for itself among radios, like Icom or Kenwood
