I would like to apply my boat name and home port on the underside of my tender as it obscures the writing on the transom when it’s held on the snap davits. What’s the best way of doing this? Adhesive lettering, paint etc?

My Avon has the name of previous owners boat painted on it with flexible PVC paint specially for the job ... I've owned the dinghy for over 20yrs and finally its faded enough, I've tried abrading it ... - I will paint over it with Grey Gummipaint specially for the job ... then put my boats name on with different colour ...

I fitted some rib tube lettering to my inflatable dinghy, still stuck perfectly after several times deflating and inflating.

Slap on in pink and bright yellow with lots of drips etc and nobody will nick it! Same for engine.

Thanks all. I've gone for some self adhesive lettering from The Graphics Boat on the basis that it will be neater than hand painting and hopefully reasonably durable.

Farlington Marshes - fishing club moorings. Guy had a smallish Mobo with 50HP engine on it ... decided to swap for a nice new 70HP. Had bolts / locks etc to secure. Wasn't on boat for long ... somebody stole it off the back of boat out on its mooring. So he put the 50HP back on ... slapped crap paint over engine cover ... put all sorts of metal plates and bolts / locks etc to secure the engine.
We helped him refloat the boat - thieves had 'chainsawed' the transom out and stole that 50HP ....
We had a pretty good idea who had done it ... but no proof. Not many out there have ability to hold and lift a transom with big outboard clamped on ...

When they steal an engine they often expect that you will replace with a new one so they come to get that one later. Obviously we like our stuff to look nice but resale value is affected if it doesn't and a thief will generally choose both the easiest to steal and to resell.
