Best age for our 'new to us' yacht

Most that I’ve seen have failed all by themselves and end up held up with mooring ropes rather than the list mechanism 😂
I’m only jealous, our boat pre-dates such niceties.

Mine has 2 electric linear drives, co-opted from the healthcare industry and originaly used in electric hospital beds. Some bright spark at Bavaria realised they were sealed and waterproof due to the cleaning routine for hospital bed frames. They're not marine grade but seem to function OK as long as the seals are sound.

FWIW: Met a chap in Santander with a new (that year) Beneteau 57 and he had a very similar list of issues to those that I had experienced with my 30 year old yacht (did a refit and update). I had expected that a new yacht would be mostly free of the kind of issues I'd had due to the age of my own yacht. Not true, at least not in this case. Having worked on a fleet of new charter yachts I can say that they were not issue free either.

Adding to Nevis768's comment: When I was looking for a yacht I got introduced to a Bavaria from <2000, a Lagoon 390 and even to this day I see them and note how well they age and weather the years at sea. That model has also got a lloyds certificate for the hull. Remarkable value for money imv. I think there are a couple of others from around that time of similar build quality, the Ocean 38/40s although I think these are centre cockpits.
