Beautiful (I think) yacht

Sat here earlier drinking coffee watching the western Solent and this little sailboat goes past the house - out of the Solent now and seems to be heading west, Seabiscuit, a mere 42 metres - how the other half live...

To admire for sure...

But they'd be having much more fun on a boat they could sail with family and friends. Always my first thought when I look at these...

Wouldn't fit in my harbour, so I wont be getting one either!

Nice that others make the effort though. And much pleasanter to look across at than another modern motor yacht IMHO.

I am sure there are great reasons for it that are beyond my knowledge, but it is funny having two Bermudian sails, but of such different shapes. I doubt that I will choose a schooner rig for my superyacht, but each to their own.

Some people spend their life time earning money to have someone else sail their boat which they can be a passenger on a few times a year. Others spend more time sailing than earning money.

She is certainly impressive. The hull looks fine but I don't find the coachroof very attractive and the bimini breaks the lines. I think that when I come into this sort of money I will derive at least as much satisfaction from both ownership and sailing as I do currently. It might be a while before this happens, but in the meantime I will not wallow in envy but take what pleasure I can from seeing such a vessel.

There is also a large (59' - but small compared to the Hoek schooner) Sunseeker motor yacht called Sea Biscuit -

17.98m Sunseeker, Sea Biscuit asking £945,000
Steam Iron would have been a better name. If I'm ever rich enough to spend that sort of money on a boat - plus the money to park it and run it, I'd prefer something like this 2015 Selene 54 Motor Yacht for sale - YachtWorld

And I'd still have enough change to run it for a year or two.

As for the yacht, nice enough, but there comes a point at which bigger doesn't mean better, it just means more compensating. I'll leave you to think about what for. (Of course, the likelihood of me ever having to worry about how much yacht is too much is so small that I would say that, wouldn't I ;) )

Sea Biscuit left Southampton this morning, and she is already now south of Plymouth - she is certainly shifting!
In sailing yacht terms that is - mobo folk would probably think that 10 knots is painfully slow.

There are a few wiggles in her track, perhaps to take avoiding action re other vessels?

Temp tonight is a chilly 2C, and with the wind chill factor it must be a lot colder.
Especially with 24 knots of wind from the NE, ie Siberia.

It will be interesting to see where she is bound for - I would agree with Ashtead, Pendennis is a good call.

And I see that the cruise ships Arcadia and Queen Victoria have moved around the corner from Torbay to anchor off Hope Cove to shelter from the N'Easterly.

I know it's only a measly 111ft (34m), but for my money, I'd rather have the Spirit 111

I just had a look at her layout - although she is 33.9 m. LOA, her LWL is 'only' 24 m, so she can be 'owner operated', without a requirement to have 'professional' crew on board - and indeed, there does not appear to be any specific 'crew' accommodation as such.
Just a huge owner's stateroom forward, and three double guest cabins.

No one could accuse the interior layout of lacking imagination, and the design is quite avant garde in terms of propulsion etc.
