Who went? and What did you buy?

I have worked out what Boat jumbles are for, they are to move junk (in huge amounts) from one to place to the other /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif But why not leave it all in the same place?
I bought a boat hook and a seat for my dinghy (which is too big, So I will have to get another one)
SWMBO bought a whole set of Fairline Plates Crockery ( Even when we told her that we had loads of perfectly good plates on the boat /forums/images/icons/smile.gif)
And No1 Moose bought a stupidly sharp knife (How long till he cuts himself?)
I noticed that there are loads of fantastic deals, which I can't afford!!/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif But all the stuff I bought was normalish price. It's definitely a con isn't it The stuff you need to buy is expensive the stuff you want to buy is really good value but too expensive!!.

Today we purchased

2 bottles 3M boat polish (cheapest Ive seen for some time)

A pair of boat shoes for Mother In Law (£29 rather than £49 so good deal here)

A boiler suit for me to give others the illusion that I understand the complex principals of boat cleaning and repairs (£9 so worth it for the laugh alone)

That was it for us but Joanne wondered why there were so many bearded men selling rusty bits of engine?

Perk for me was a look around the museaum which took some of the sting out of the £14 it cost us to get in.

Thanks to entering the competition on the YBW newletter I got free ticket/forums/images/icons/smile.gif. Spent about 10 mins in the queue until I realised that as I'd got a ticket I could go streaight in. No signs in car park to say - if you got a ticket come on in!
Anyway bought a shakcle and one of those power pack thingys. Now I'm not in a marina and can't keep the battery charger on I felt I needed something to swing the old V8 over in case of emergencies. Also discovered it comes with a spot light and inverter - £55 "reduced from £235 (it weighs a bloody ton though!)
Had a quick look round the 007 hall and the drafed the 15 odd kilos of purchase all the way back to the car park which seemed about 3 miles futher away than when I arrived /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif Back home in time to see Man U triumph /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

New Bombard AX2 Inflatable for £378 and at least £30 less than anywhere on the net.

Fishing tackle to replace the stuff of Duncan's I lost.

Manual bilge pump - really exciting

Gas cooker that is better than my bunsen and good for a fry up.

Kids and wifey had a great time looking around grounds and museum and it was cheap entry. I claimed we had only come for a family trip to museum and didn't realise it was anoraks day, and a very nice man let me park near the entrance.

Finally the kids have a use.

I didn't go, because I have enough junk in the garage as it is. Never reallyseems cheap anyway. By the time you add in the squirt to get there (at 10 to the gallon) then the cost of getting in and umm.........

We went to the Goodwood Jumle recently, paid £4 for a fender plus £5 for two of us to get in, would have been cheaper to go to the chandlers.

still, great fun watching all the raggies buying loads of c**p to make their boats more comfortable or just to clutter up their garage.

OOOh i just love those GRP seat s in the cockpit, we just love those metrics!

Just got back, definitely quieter than the last time I went about 5 years ago, although some good deals, £5 for a seat for my Avon, £15 for a horse shoe lifebuoy, £5 for an anode which I would normally pay £20 etc etc.

We were really lucky with the weather, it peed down most of the way home.

And no, I wasn't wearing the forum burgee!

Bought several new items, automatic extinguisher, battery box, gas cooker etc, saved some money.
It seams to have been taken over by businesses these days, charging the same or more than in their shops, also dealers buying from one stall only to mark it up and trying to sell it again. A lot of the same old junk that was tere last year, the sort of thing most of us would be ashamed to be seen taking to the dump let alone trying to sell!!

There was one particular stall which had a load of old black oily grimy fenders which all looked about 20 years old. Who buys them? Probably no one so why do they waste their time.

Re: talk about toffee nosed

It's the crap that has the best potential.

I did the boat jumble at Norfolk and yes it was lots of old stuff but compared to a lot of other stalls we had proper marine items things like opening portholes a pair at twenty quid .
Beaulie is both to far and to expensive for private individuals to sell their old stuff and that's why it caters for the squeaky clean brigade who like the cheap crappy item to bring home .
The way this thread is going inmho seems to imply any one not selling new plastic crap aint selling good gear but crap, which is misleading cos the real bargains are the rusty oily bit's and bob's piled up on the ground

Re: talk about toffee nosed

While we are talking about Fenders, I did like the stall that had a nice new shiny fender sitting on the front of the table with "<font color=blue>Fender: As used by Lord Nelson himself, Last one available £500</font color=blue>
