Well done. That looks a snip at the asking price. Just be wary of the teak deck as the method used to fasten it to the deck while the adhesive cured was not the best. Also the sealing of the hull/deck joint under the teak rubbing strake and capping can be a bit hit and miss. There is plenty of information about dealing with the teak on the forum I linked to earlier. Otherwise the boat looks well set up for your cruising area, although the new anchor is a bit OTT - a 20kg would be more than enough! Anyway the windlass will be able to handle it OK

Hope the survey goes well.
Thanks Tranona, I joined the forum you mentioned and found out lots of information including about the teak decks, they say its just glued on, and a few people have successfully removed them and the glue without the need to re-gel coat the decks. This one is pretty good in 99% of it, possible a couple of small repairs needed.
We offered under the asking, so we have a bit spare to tidy up a few corners.
The current owner completely removed the hull/deck capping and has sealed the deck all the way around before refitting it, so should be okay.
I did comment on the size of the anchor, and the windless is pretty big too, so should manage it, but at least we should be able to sleep soundly when at anchor!

Survey booked for next week now. 🤞

If looking for things to check in addition to teak decks would be looking at the cooker /replacing maybe (we had a 2001 Bav and cooker looks much the same Bav branded version) and also the joins on domestic hot water (unless you want to wash out the bilges) as the connectors by Whale I think can be suspect . I saw a 42 version the other day and owner had her since 2002 and seemed happy enough. I guess they have extra cabin ? But another one to look out for along with the 40 . Clearly perhaps more moody stern cabin versions out there though .
When the current owners bought the boat 7yrs ago, the cooker had never been used and all the grill pans and pan holders were still in the original packaging inside the oven, it does still look good now.

Will have a look at the other items you mentioned, thanks.

When I made my comments earlier about Moody v Bav centre cockpit I thought I'd made it plain enough that I thought they looked good boats. My comment about keels was very much tongue in cheek but obviously went over several heads. If I offended I apologise. It was meant to be a lighthearted sign off.
Anyway Alistairr, I hope your survey goes well and that you have many enjoyable times with the boat

You may think it light hearted, but keels falling off is not. Added absolutely nothing to your positive observation - so why say it when it is not true? in the sense that the keel incident that lies underneath was well documented - it did not fall of but was knocked off and was a boat of totally different design and construction from the mainstream Bavarias of which there are thousands with their keels firmly attached. As it happens I have personally witnessed a Keel breaking off a Moody. Ok it was dropped from a crane but the casting broke and part of it was torn from the hull.

Apology accepted.

Yes glued on, but held down by screws between the strips in some places until glue cured. Screws removed and holes plugged with caulking so not visible. However if caulking fails around that point there can be leaks through the deck. Best test of caulking is to get the deck wet with a hose on a good drying day like it is this week (at least down here in Poole) and watch for areas that are slow to dry indicating that water has penetrated the seam and into the edge of the teak. the teak seems to stand up better in our cooler and damper climate whereas in the Med where many boats are the sun and wide variations in temperature and humidity shortens their life considerably.

The Techimpex cookers are fine if you don't use them - or more accurately if you use them in the weekend and holiday mode and keep them clean. Not good for liveaboards and charter use. The top grid is only plated and the burners and diffusers corrode badly. They are unique to Techimpex plus are a pig to remove. My first Bavaria was chartered for the first 7 years I owned it and the cooker needed replacing at the end. However the next one a 2015 boat I owned for 5 years was like new when I sold it because of lighter use and always keeping it clean.

The Lofrans is standard fit for Bavarias of that era and although a bit agricultural is reliable and long lived. You might look at the mounting as from the photos it looks like it is mounted on the standard rubber pad. The consensus is to get rid of that because it holds moisture nd corrodes the bottom of the housing. Many of us have removed the windlass and painted the bottom face plus unwinding the mounting studs and putting them back in with Duralec. Worth doing with all the stainless fastenings.

Hope all goes well and you get years of pleasure out of the boat.

That one is currently under offer…. to me.😀

Had the sea trial on her yesterday, just to get her surveyed and then hopefully she‘ll be ours.
Hey! Congratulations on finding a potential. I hope the purchase/survey all goes well. I did wonder if this yacht might be the one you had been interested in.
When I bought my yacht I wanted a large aft cabin and my father would not stop telling me it was pointless and that I needed good sea berths. I could not disagree more with him. That aft cabin is going to be a lovely place to put your head down after a good sail. To be able to shut the door on guests at the end of a night, and leave them to the rest of the yacht whilst as owner you enjoy the aft cabin and relative privacy of the en-suite. Yep, that is the way to go AFAIC.
Fingers crossed for you.

Nothing wrong with a 25kg anchor on a 38ft boat... we've managed to drag ours a few times 😳

If you can find the patience to join the anchor threads you might find views that say dragging anchors is little to do with weight, and more weight does not necessarily improve holding power!
Just saying.
Yeah life's a bit short for anchor threads.
Touch wood, I solved the problem by leaving the Med and going somewhere where I have space to put out more than 3:1 scope.
