I’ve bought my first yacht . I know how to sail but there is a lot to learn about a cruising yacht from how everything works to what equipment i should have etc. Can anyone recommend a good book to read?

No I cannot recommend a book, but the boat will teach you if you can already sail.

We bought a Bav 30 and learned as we went, finding what works well and learning to fix a few simple problems like a water leak from the fresh water system. They’re brilliant little boats, get out sailing and figure out what you need.
Like any boat or car the engine needs an annual service which is straight forward, so perhaps read a little about that first. We’ve replaced the running and standing rigging as a precaution when it hit 12 or 13 years old.

You might also look for the Bavaria Owners Association website for info on changes /upgrades etc for your Bav . If you like books then titles on practical boat handling might be of use along with some form of pilot book on the area you sail . Perhaps a book on marine electrics might interest ? One way of having a check over for safety stuff used to be a free marine safety check whereby an old experienced greybeard tells you about flares and life jackets and safety devices etc.

Welcome

Good choice of boat. Google Nigel Calder books. Probably the most comprehensive available.

Also join here bavariayacht.org/forum/index.php Very active and a mine of information.

Bavarias are by today's standards very simple boats with few faults and most of the gear is mainstream with lots of information available

No 1 book will teach it all. Nigel Calders stuff is good for the systems but you need to take it with a pinch of salt - it's getting old now and some new tech isn't really covered. John Goode did some good stuff on boat handling but i genuinely think you can get a lot of that stuff online now.

I would recommend “The Complete Yachtmaster” by Tom Cunliffe. Cheap on eBay and plenty in there to get your teeth into.

Edit: sorry, missed the bit where you said you wanted a book re boat itself. That said, Complete YM is well worth a read.
