Sorry for delay in replying . Yes it is charged on the mains but it can be charged from batteries ciggy leads etc come with unit but you obviously do not get a full charge using this method. I actually got my unit from Nauticalia on the Thames at Shepperton on Thamescost £about £50.00. Must use them as I said or will let you down when needed.

As you know I went for Screwfix, they are brilliant for all sorts of bits and pieces with free next day delivery over £45 so you would quailify. Apperently if you introduce someone you get a £10 voucher, I used one for mine, so if you find someone to introduce to Screwfix you will get a £10 voucher, they can then do the same and so on, until the last poor sod with no mates does not get the discount. I guess if you introduced 5 people you would get it free/forums/images/icons/wink.gif Anyway remember to spend over £45 or you pay for P&P, but it is easy to find cleaning materials and other stuff to make up the odd fiver.

Mine will arrive today with my £19 electric orbital polisher, so I can update you later. Check out their web site to see if there is other useful stuff, if you are spending over £45 now is the time to tag little items onto that order.

They do some nice electronic safes cheap, I have three that I keep bit's in, at least I know where the bits are then (e.g. passports, foreign cash, insurance doc's)!

By the time you start your car, drive around, waste time, pay congestion charge, it's easier to wait for it to drop on the doorstep IMHO.

Good luck

Well, Well, as I was typing my last post the door bell went, and there it was, all the gear I had ordered from Screwfix, delivered via Amtrak. Now isn't that good service /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

The battery booster looks sturdy, I am charging it at the moment. The compressor is sort of attached at the back, I wouldn't have chosen to have it if I had the choice, but as this was the only model I got it, it may be useful for the odd car tyre or dinghy.

Cheers,

I haven't been to The Absolute End for ages, since Toffanello (sp?) retired which must be years ago. My favourite is La Fregate, tho I don't get there as often as I like.

Re: Happy1, Esprit

Welcome to the forum Esprit. It's fine to have strong views. However, seems a bit strong in this case. Happy1 is revelling in his new boat and a new pastime. It was his idea to have a battery booster on board, so punted up the idea here that it might be an idea to have one. It's only 40 quid or so. And when he needs it, the main agents will be shut.

I suppose I must be one of the leading people caught by your sweeping generalisation regarding what we do when not on board a boat. Leaving aside the issue of differentiating between posteriror and elbow, there much hereabouts that is certainly not rubbish at all, and many like me have found the info useful, sometimes vital- when they are on board. Typing into an electrtonic box, pah! Doesn't this sound like the getting-nowhere middle aged types who used to ridicule reading "books!".

Happy1 is quite well able to differentiate the reputable sources from otherwise, certainly doesn't get "misled", and has dragged us all through a hundred or so discussions recently regarding all sorts of requirements. I think he knows he is getting a bit more deeply involved in the spares and equipment than is normal, but provided he doesn't sink - so what?

There are lots of reputable sources here, even including some manufacturers, as well people who work as main dealers. Those who work at main agents might often come across as expert, but may not be so. You should not assume that someone who sells a hundred oil filters a week and knows the part numbers of by heart - also knows all about oil, engines, troubleshooting, seamanship and so on.

Oh, and I think you meant "accept" rather than "except" - spelling mistakes are fine but completely confusing one elementary word with another might lead one to adversely judge your own views. Which would be a shame after oly four posts.

cheers anyway

Don't want to dampen your enthusiasm Happy1 but doubt very much if your compressor thingy will inflate your dinghy (just in case you are relying on that function). It's designed for tyres which are high pressure/low volume whereas dinghy is exactly the opposite - low pressure/high volume. You'll be there for ever so best buy special dinghy inflator if necessary.

Sorry Tigerman, you've just missed out, had a seafood feast last nite with fellow divers, crab and lobster to start, dover sole and scallops for main course, all cooked to perfection (not by me!), absolutely delicious.

You may qualify if you're ever down Exmouth way /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Please be aware...

The mains chargers that come with these will kill the battery within 12 months as it doesn't fully charge it and the cigarette adapter won't fully charge it either. I've just had to replace the battery in my Clarke (Machine Mart) one. I got a separate charger at the same time so that I always know the thing is fully charged when I need it!

The charger I got is an Optimate III (at £34+vat). Have a look at http://www.accumate.co.uk/it010003.html

Worth the money to keep your emergency backup in good nick!

Cheers, Jerry

So, if I've got it right. Happynow needs.

One battery booster.
One spare battery.
One spare battery charger to boost the battery booster.
One dinghy pump.

Re: Please be aware...

little concerned that he may not be carrying his dingy inflated at all times and therefore a liferaft stowed on the foredeck may be appropriate..../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: Please be aware...

I only have a toy dinghy, which will inflate quite quick. I bought the dinghy as a safety feature for our baby daughter, I will keep it blown up in the cuddy so if we sink I can chuck her in it and we can all hang on to it (I guess I will have to be on the lookout for strong winds or maybe more disasterous!). I thought at least it would keep her out of the water as the poor little sole would not take long to freeze to the core.
