Antifoul is perfect for keeping the hull clean but other than running the engines in drive, what can you suggest for keeping shafts and props clear of barnacles.
There's always at least one Nacle in every busy bar. He usually sits in a corner nursing a half of bitter all night. The can be of any age between 35 - 55 and generally live at home with their Mother. They wear Fairisle sweaters and Courderoy Trousers and if you get button holed by one you will find they are capable of Boring for England. I could give you more information on Bar Nacles but Mother is calling me to try on my new sweater with a pocket in it to carry my Hankie and my Trainspotting book.
Fraid that turning props and shafts even at 000's revs pm will not dislodge the little buggers. Only way is to either dry out and clean them or dive under with wire brush and wet and dry paper. This only takes a few minutes, but strongly advise making sure no-one will turn engine on and engage gear!!!!
If you leave them too long and they really start to grow then they can cause nasty vibrations.
See now if you had outdrives, you wouldn't have that problem. Just lift up your legs as high in the air as you can and give them a good scrub down with a stiff brush. I try to make special effort to get all the grunge out, especially from between them and they end up looking as good as new. Works wonders for me every time.
BTW I have told the REAL PaulineB about you, the imposter here. You're quite nice looking in a "convicty sort of way", but you just wait till the real pauline sees. Then you'll wish you had a big boathook to fend her off with..
And just why have you put a picture of Suzie on your profile. For the unknowing Suzie (known as little angel) is Pauline's daughter. Potential suiters beware she can spit fire and break legs with a single look. But great fun to have around.
A typical womans out look on life always look on the dark side. I could always have ment it the other way around. Then again maybe not. Anyway angel would have to dye her to look like mum and I know she doesn't like the dark roots look.
I have the same problem. My boat is in the MED and we have tried all sorts of fixes with little diference.
However International Paints have some stuff called PROP O DREV which we are told works.
We will try this in the comming season,
Check them out at the boat show.
Your right I was away for 3months during the summer and got back to find my prop and stern drive completely caked in barnacles. However I had coated the stern drive etc with Veridian and the it came off in one complete section - I had the barnacles in a cone shape from the prop cone. None of this chipping away like normal.
That's not nice at all. Poor old Arthur he's 61, living in Flordia and all his faculties are going. He's deaf, lost his teeth and his eyesight's failing too and if he thinks Pauline's pretty who are you to put him right?
Leave the poor old duffer alone. You wait till you get to his age and see how you like having the p**s taken out of you.
