Bareboat from Lavrion – route options?
Is this likely to be a good plan?
We are considering chartering for a week early to mid September but due to other commitments this year the budget will be pretty limited.
The following plan has evolved I’d appreciate any comments from the forum.
Flights to Athens are currently cheap and a good choice of times. This would give us easy access to boats from Athens or Livrion (spelling?)
I’m favouring Livrion because I’m concerned that the Athens crowd will mostly be doing very similar routes so we could find ourselves in a mobile traffic jam struggling for mooring space every night. Am I wrong? Does anyone have experience of this?
My thinking on Livrion is that we could head to the Argolic ahead of the Athens crowd but that makes Idra (Hydra) our first stop and I’ve heard that it’s very crowded. I’ll have a mutinous crew to deal with if we fail to find a mooring after such a long day.
Another Lavrion alternatives would be to head out to the Cyclydes but I heard terrible tales of barren Islands swept by the ferocious Meltemi. Are they accurate?
I have also thought about heading North (I think it’s called the Southern Euboen Gulf) but I’m not sure what we would find up there. Does anyone know the area?
I figured I could make a call on the various Lavrion options at the last minute once I have an indication of the Meltemi’s mood
And finally, I’m thinking of waiting for a late availability deal. Is this wise?
