Baofeng radio drop test

I’ve had a UV-5R Mk3, for a few years now. It’s programmed for both 2m and 70cm amateur bands and marine vhf.

There have been a number of scathing comments made about them within this forum but I’ve only had a good experience.

A pal of mine who works with RF electronics has measured the performance of his UV-5R and found it to be comparable to the big brands.

Difficult to believe :). If I dropped something,. that I valued, from the top of the mast it would bounce and go straight into the water.

Can you advise next week's winning lottery numbers, please?

On a more serious note - 'we' are too keen to knock Chines e product.

Thank you for the heads up.

We are ashore. Second bounce to hard standing. We have found these little PMRs really useful especially when working at the top of the mast. They are also useful when anchoring as the back of the head does little for communication! We also have earpieces which double as mics. Unbelievably effective.

I also have an airband receiver - Hanrongda bought to help me familiarise my pathetic ears with air traffic conversations. That also is very good. (It will also tune to channel zero on marine band). Very wide frequency coverage.

That’s impressive. It’s cool to hear your radio worked well even from the top of the mast. I was up on the deck, and my buddy was down below, and we could easily chat back and forth. We dropped one overboard by accident, and it floated for a bit before sinking. To our surprise, the other one worked just fine, even after we tossed it around a bit.
