Is everyone going to Oostend? I hope to be in Calais - several other YCs go there and locals are very friendly. Local YC even holds a reception on the Sunday lunchtime for the visitors.

Don't get me wrong... the yacht club was very friendly, and we enjoyed it there... I just found the combination of the lifting bridge/lock for entry (and its restricted opening times), plus a relatively unappealling town made it a less than attractive cruising destination for me... probably not assisted by the fact that despite the pilot, almanac, and indeed the Calais website listing one channel for port comms, they had switched to another, and the Harbour Master refused to communicate via the old channel (and we didn't know the new channel even existed, let alone what channel number), he then finally used his tannoy on the end of the pier to be extremely rude to us and 3 other boats waiting for entry who were also confused by the absence of response on the 'correct' channel..... unneccessary, and unpleasant....
I much prefer Boulogne... and will try Gravelines in a couple of weeks or so...
